Keko has a foraging wheel in his cage which i have placed both monkey nuts and almonds in it but he's not bothered about them i'm wondering if there's anything else that i can use to try and get him more into it i was thinking maybe hazel nut halves and walnut halves aswell but any others mentioned will be tried.
It could be because he is too young yet to eat nuts. I found Codie did not bother with any kind of nuts until he was at least 16 weeks old. You could try smal pieces of grapes, banana chips and millet.
I would not put anything wet in the wheel. It takes a grey time to get used to the wheel. Play with it yourself so he can see food may come out. Just be patient and consistent and nuts should be good. Pumpkin seeds may work too. Even a small bit of seed could work in the beginning. Placement of the wheel is also important. I put Rosie's near the door of the cage with a perch so she could easily reach it.

Keko's is at the back of the cage with a perch next to it so he is able to reach it i will sit with him tomorrow and show him how to use it fingers crossed he should start using it.
And if he does not play with it put it up after a couple weeks and then pull it out next month. It can take a bird a couple go arounds before they will start playing with something.

My grey in naturally apprehensive with new toys. I think Shelly has a good suggestions, that if he doesn't like it after you've tried it awhile. Take it out and try again in a month. If he's never seen a toy like this before, he may not be sure of it yet. Showing him how to use it would be a great idea, too! Good luck!

Thanks for the advise i will give it a try out.
You could take it out of the cage and have it near you as you share play times together. Let him see you playing with the wheel. Young birds sometimes need a teacher.
I was thinking maybe some nutriberries or not too sugary cereal would fit in there? And yeah, let him watch you load it, and give him a taste of what is going in there.
And, um...sorry to jack your thread...but WHERE do I get one of those fantastic wheels? And do you think it would stand up to a very aggressive chewer of the larger variety? (Blue and Gold)
We got Josie's wheel from bird paradise about 6 months ago and it is still in very good working order. We call it her nut dispenser because she figured it out in about 10 seconds! The only thing it can't figure out is how she keeps unscrewing one of the things that holds it to her cage. I find the same piece on the floor daily. All in all I think it was worth the $$.
