Rosie learned a new word and has been using it for the last week or so. It is.....UP!!!!!!
Much like a new Mom wanting a baby to say Mom, I wanted Rosie to say Up. She got it and we were all excited. She says it in such a cute sweet voice full of excitement. However, much like a new Mom who's baby says Mom, I wish she didn't say it quite so much. Lol.
Rosie wants me to pick her UP!!!! all the time. So she is saying it all the time. It is only 8 am here and she has demanded UP!!! more times than I can count. Very often at inconvenient times. While I was forcing the dogs out into the blizzard to go potty, while I was chasing Teddy around the house to get him back outside (he went out, took 2 steps and said NOPE & ran back in), while I was making breakfast, you get the idea. Sigh... When UP!!!! is not met with her slave dropping everything to get her royal highness, screams tend to ensue. Ash did help me out while I was taking the cinnamon rolls out of the oven by chatting with Rosie about UP!!!!, which gave me a minute or so reprieve.
So happy we have a new word and it is used correctly. Much better than screaming straight off. But sometimes toddler like creatures being able to verbalize their wants is just like dealing with a toddler. Mind numbing. :bonnie:

I'm glad I don't live in your house. But it can be nearly as bad here. Caspers default word is Hello. It sometimes means, when he is out of his cage, that he wants us to put him back for a poop. But quite often when you get him to step onto a finger and lift him up to his perch (why climb up there yourself when you can get a human to help) he refuses to step across because he didn't want to poop, he just didn't think you should be doing something which didn't involve HIM.

Congratulations, Rosie! One of Salsa's favorite things to say ever since he came to live with me is "up up". He especially likes to help me admonish Zaffer for sneaking down to the floor by yelling "Up Up, RIGHT NOW!" at him ;)
Aww a new word is great~ I suspect it will be over used for a bit, at least she knows what the word means.

I know how great it is when your parrot starts to say a new word , Salty just started saying Good Boy. But he's not the endless repeating type of birdie. Your Rosie seems to have some cognitive use of the word, which i find super cool. None of the parrots i have had has ever done that. Sounds to want certain things, or recognition sounds , yes, but never the kind of reasoning speech that Rosie or some other birdies on here seem to show. But then again Salty is a young bird still ( 8 months), so who knows. I love hearing stories about Rosie, keep posting.

Sucre has a really large vocabulary. His favorite attention getter is "I love you." If he gets in trouble while out of his cage, he's got the "I'm sorry" on queue as soon as he realizes he's headed back to the cage.
But right now, his favorite word is "Help" in the mornings - over and over - while I'm trying to get ready to go to work. He's so smart that sometimes we forget he's a bird. My husband and I both seem to respond to everything he says, so when he yells "Help" I tend to come running. I will say "What's wrong?" and he will push his head against the cage for a rub and say "I love you". No sooner do I get back to my make up than I hear that "Help" again.
I am like you, I have a lot of other animals to take care of, and there's always Sucre in the background trying to get all eyes on him. My house is total chaos at all times. Thank goodness I am medicated!

Albert - she absolutely knows what she is saying. I'm sure as Salty gets older you will see the same with him.
Kim - I love Sucre already!!
The UP!!! has continued. I started saying no and explaining why. HA! Much like a toddler she DOES NOT CARE. This leads to another UP!! with a foot lifted expectantly. ;)

She wants what she wants. If Rosie said it it's true. Put that on a t shirt!

It is EXACTLY like dealing with a toddler! Rosie sounds like quite the character. And she's certainly beautiful!
Sucre pulled another good one this morning.
I have a little old grouchy terrier mix who hates to get his feet wet. Yesterday, all day, it looked like rain, and I know the dogs sense the impending rain before it ever hits. Pedro didn't want to go outside, just in case the grass was wet. I bet I tried to get him to go out 15 times.
This morning, I'm putting on my make up getting ready for work and I hear this from Sucre - "PEDRO" (pause) "Do you want to go outside?" (pause) "Don't you poop in the floor!"
Just exactly what he heard me say over and over yesterday...

Has she seen the movie "Up"? I found sometimes finding a slightly different perspective on a new word gave rise to a bunch of new connections and Kiki sure loved her cartoon movies. We'd just bring her perch or cage over and watch the movies together and talk about them.

Penny - she hasn't. That is a great idea and a great enrichment idea. Unfortunately, Rosie has zero interest in the television. She loves music, but never wants to watch tv.
Yay!! Rosie!!! That's awesome! Amigo has only two words, "Hi There", and he can say these in different ways to mean totally different things but they are his only vocab. That's wonderful that Sucre is so vocal! Are you sure he isn't a "she"? :)

It's funny how the same word can have different meanings. Glad to have you back Mare - I missed you!

Mare, the vet said Sucre is a male. I thought he was, even when the former owner told me he was a she - she was going by the eyes. His eyes are as black as coal under fluorescent lighting. Tonight, he went on one of his tirades (in the voice that sounds like he's possessed) and at the end he yelled "Stop complaining!" We're thinking he heard a lot of arguing in his former home. He has full fledged arguments with himself using 2 different voices - one is soft like a woman or child, and the other is deep and agitated.
