Here is our latest - the fruits and veg are always different, whatever we can find organic for cheap at the time - I will try and post a pic later if you like!

Great White Northern Bean (lowest in lectin, I am terrified of lectin, always scared I won't cook it out)
Kamut (ancient grain, must be bought at the hippie store, but it is the only one I can find locally that is big enough)
Chickpeas

Broccoli
Kale
Green Beans
Snap Peas
Squash

Cantaloupe
Honeydew
Strawberries
Blueberries

Peanuts
Almond slices

They are listed in four groupings - grains and bean, fruit, veg, and seeds/nuts. The grains and bean make up about 1/3, the fruit and veg I try to balance equally, with a little less fruit...and the nuts and seeds is about 10% of all. I should have taken a pic of the giant rubbermaid we use with all of it in there...I am sorry I was just so tired and wanted to be done last night! We then bag in quart bags and freeze - keeping one always thawed in the fridge. And yes, we are crazy enough that they get this microwaved twice a day. :screwy:

Sounds good! How long does one, quart bag full of chop, last two macaws? Just curious because I've never made chop and was thinking, if I did, would I use the smaller baggies? I can't imagine this remaining well in the fridge for too long? My cockatoos don't eat much, (well, Amigo isn't the piggie Sassy is, shall I say), I'm just wondering how long it's good for?

Oh!! I'd love to see a pic, if you get the chance!

It sure doesn't remain good in the fridge too long...especially if I put a bunch of soft fruit like banana in there. It does freeze really well, though. One quart bag about an inch thick flattened lasts my two about three days...just about as long as it is nice and fresh...I used to freeze in the smaller size baggies when it was just Jack, though.

I should have mentioned above that most of this is organic - really should have mentioned that. I go by the current year of the Shopper's Guide to Fruits and Vegetables. This will tell you how much you have to worry about this or that choice having pesticides in it...and as always, refrain from using avocado, it is toxic. :)

Oh, there is also a grapefruit in there...not much, but citrus helps process iron, so I always put a few oranges, lemons, or grapefruit in there. (Soaking banana in lemon stops them from turning brown)

Here is some thawed! :)

i wish my guys would let me make up a chop and freeze it, if its not made on the day they will not touch it, but i guess thats my fault as from day one , its always been cut or cooked on the day for them , buggers wont eat if not done on the day, but i still love them and do it for them with out complaint.

That's really good looking chop you have made. Has a lot of the good things they eat in it. My two macaw boys don't care much for the veggie chops. They prefer the fruit flavored ones. My ekkie Leyla Belle & GW Ruby Jewel love any mushy cooked mess I give them.

Since I mix my cooked chops in with fresh cut or thawed frozen veggies in their bowls, I put mine in the small condiment cups with lids and freeze them. I put however many cups I need for that meal in the microwave to thaw & heat. That way I don't have to keep any in the fridge for them.
