We've just returned from staying with friends in France. They have to suffer frelons which are hornets that reach a size of over an inch long and have a rather nasty sting.

I think we have something similar here. Wasps and hornets bother me, bees not so much. I like to garden and am used to bees buzzing around. I have been stung by a wasp...youch...worse than a bee sting.

Indeed, I am quite happy to have a bumble bee sitting on the end of my thumb but wouldn't be so brave with a wasp.

I have been stung by a wasp as well.

Sitting on the handrail where I couldn't see it and sure enough I grabbed the rail.

    They are nasty!

We had a wasp nest above our front doorway but I didn't notice as we don't use the front to often. As I went out to do whatever (I don't recall) I got stung all about my head. It made me quite dizzy, but when the evening came we also removed it after spraying it down with a commercial wasp spray.

Wow, Alice. That would have been scary. Were you doing anything to provoke (obviously, without realizing).

Nope, just getting the mail. It was quite a surprise to me! I suppose I was just to close to where they made their nest.
