Bird ID needed for pet parrot?

    Hi everyone,
First time posting here Hopefully I'm in the right section.

I've inherited a parrot/bird after a family member has recently passed away, and am enquiring to what type of bird it is?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks to me like a red winged parrot?

Hi Beau and welcome to the forum. Yes, your parrot looks like a red winged parakeet. The cage is little small for it and it looks like he doesn't have much to do like playing/chewing toys.
    Will you be keeping it?
Have you had a parrot before?

Casper, a blue fronted Amazon. Loves banana. Hates plastic bags and red coats.
Welcome Beau and your beautiful bird, what is his/her name?
and welcome to the incredible world of having a companion bird. Your situation is exactly like ours was five years ago when Casper came to us. He has totally changed our lives so be prepared!
I have never felt happy with pets kept in cages for the gratification of their owners so, after not being able to find someone to care for Casper and him deciding that my wife Margaret was who he wanted to be with we made space in the living room for his cage and wondered whether he would still be alive in the morning. It was one heck of a learning curve - Margaret nearly killed him using an unsuitable cleaning spray with him still in the cage but he is a survivor.
If you don't have an avian vet's number on your phone then that is the first thing you need to get sorted.
A big cage is only a necessity if your bird is going to be shut away all the time. Casper's cage is always open during the day when we are around to keep an eye on him and it is more of a bedroom, feeding station and gymnasium. He has a succession of large cardboard cartons to play in and exercise his creative/destructive energies, this has diverted his attention from the corners of the sofa.
Casper also has a nice cozy to cuddle up to in his cage, you do need to be aware that if birds start swallowing long threads from material they become lodged in their gullet and can cause problems so if it does start getting chewed it would be best to change it for a piece of nylon fleece.
I can write loads more when you are ready - just ask

    Hi Beau ,

I agree with Dragonlady2 that he/she is a red winged parakeet. Here is a link from a website that I think is great for all kinds of information: https://www.beautyofbirds.com/redwingedparrots.html

Like Casper's 2nd best friend I too would like to know what his or her name is? Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures with him/her.
