Question Sun Lamps or Uv Lamps

    Hey Y'all,

Does anyone have any good suggestions as to what may be a good Uv or sun lamp for parakeets. I fear my flock isnt getting enough sunlight and with the winter coming, I want them to be able to have more direct light. Right now, theyre becoming more sluggish than they were in the summer.

Full spectrum light bulbs seem to be far cheaper from lighting suppliers than pet stuff suppliers

I agree, a full spectrum light bulb will do what you want it to. Just be aware of the amount of "daylight hours" hours you subject your birds to. Unless you are breeding I wouldn't leave the light on for more than a 10 -12 hours day. There are many benefits to full spectrum lighting including Vitamin D, which a bird can not get through a window. I would suggest you stay away from a shatterproof or a safety coated, as these are believed to be coated with PTFE (teflon).
