Embedding YouTube Videos Into Posts

    Revised: 12/30/16

Taking into account that we are now redirecting to the HTTPS version pages of our website, I am revising the instruction on how to embed YouTube videos within forum posts.

In order to embed a YouTube-hosted video within the body of a forum post, any of the following 5 examples will work:

The following example, a short URL calling https protocol, will NOT work:

Irrespective of which link format you choose, you may either manually type the tags before and after a YouTube video address, or you may click on the 'Insert Video' button on the editor toolbar (the one with a filmstrip icon) and paste or type the YouTube video address (minus the tags) into the dialog box and then click 'OK'. Both methods should work fine.

    I hope this is helpful.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but as I understand it the s stands for secure or something so it must be blocking the access whereas everyone can access http.
    am I right?

That's kind of close, Jean-Pierre. The "s" from https protocol indeed does stand for "secure" - short for Secure Socket Layer (or SSL). But actually, it's not that our members can't access https websites - I'm sure we probably all can. Instead, it's that the vBulletin software can't negotiate properly with the SSL layer to establish secure connections on remotely embedded videos. One could say that our forum software is behind the times a bit

Ahh, I like it when even I can understand what I'm reading and how to make it work! Thanks once again Tony.

There are actually more options now. The same rule about dropping the "s" from a short-style YouTube URL to call forth the embedded player still applies. Which is to say that the "s" being present in a short-style YouTube URL will not call forth the embedded player. So you can still use this rule
