    Broken Tail Feather

Good morning all. So Charlie flew (more like flopped) down off of his play gym yesterday and broke one of his tail feathers. It is broken right in the middle and sticks out a little. He is not bleeding and he is OK. My question is do I trim the tail feather? It is not a blood feather.

I have researched it but there is really no definitive answer.

When my birds have broken feathers in the past I cut them. They seem to get in the way when hanging in an unnatural position and bother the bird.

Thanks Dianne, I did cut it. It didn't bother him and it was easier than I thought. Some websites said to pluck it, but I don't think I should do that.

    Thanks for your help!

Only pluck it if blood is present at the fracture point or the point where you've snipped it.
