Hey all, so I have been trying to harness train my lovebird for quite some time now and it's just really hard to because of the rambunctious nature of lovebirds, and the fact that he is:
1) in molt
2) going through puberty most likely
3) very young
So as you can tell it's a long process. The ONLY way he lets me lift his wings is if he is eating millet, or very loveable/tired and really just wants to be pet anywhere. I am doing the 3 second method where I count to 3 and then let his wing go, so he knows every time that it will at least be over by then. He is hand tame and steps up WONDERFULLY ( unless he knows he's going into his cage and that we are out of millet LOL ) so he trusts me for sure, but it's just so hard because of the lovebird nature. Does anyone have any tips to get him used to it?
I usually wear the harness around my neck, as if to show that it is a part of me, but he will not let me touch him with it or anything of the sort. He is not flighted yet, but I only have a few months before he is maximum, so I need a game plan. How did you train your darlings?
