Being a senior bird guardian adds to one's quality of life. I live in a senior apartment and many residents live alone. I have invited a few in to see Chipper and Daisy because birds are rare in this complex. They are thrilled and try to hear what they say or sing. I chose to have English Budgies because they do not have a long life span (8 - 10 years).
The scary thing about this is when one becomes ill enough to be admitted to the hospital which recently happened to me in June. I was so stressed out about who would take care of them. My friends and family helped me in this and in a few days I got a bird sitter whom I knew from working with her. Now she is grooming my birds and will come to take care of them in an emergency. We all need backup plans.
