Good Evening All!

I hope all is well where ever this may reach you. We've recently joined this forum to be connected to Feather Parents alike. We are Feather Parents from Alhambra, a suburb of Los Angeles. We have a 4 yr old GCC female named Tiki & a 1 yr old CC male named Kiwi.

The middle of April 2018 Tiki had her first ever clutch with no success or fertility. Two of the eggs were deflated and 2 were fine. After some research and videos we realized they were not fertile. All was well for about 2 weeks then eggs started to appear again ... one by one they appeared.

Fast forward, we now we have 5 fertile eggs ... waited the 21-25 days and here we are!

Baby #1 = Sunni, was hatched on 5/22
Baby #2 = Cali, was hatched on 5/23

Parents are both being attentive to the babies ... stay tuned for more updates!

Ello Lovies!!! The past few days have been good but not great. She is being quite territorial. I learned to let her come out the cage herself to avoid being nipped. Gladly, I can change her food and water from the outside of the cage. Then she is having bedtime trouble (which I posted in the main forums). My guess this is part of getting to know her likes and dislikes. Although, yesterday we have been touching up on Step up train and she is doing well. She really loves her plastic links and they make excellent foot toys. I usually add them to the bowls on the playtop so she could play with those while she is out of her cage. Today she's been a snuggle bug. She flew over to me while I was on the bed, looking for some head scratches. I hadn't done my bed then, so she snuggled into the blankets for a while. Nothing much has happened so just a quick update.

Ello Lovies!! So yea.. Its been a while. Buuuuttt... I have some exciting news!! Kai's cage and bird toy parts had arrived!!

First, about the bird cage. It was a pain in the 'bootay' to put such a large cage together BY YOURSELF. The hardest part was putting the panels of the cage so it forms a body. I had to lean stuff on the walls so I had some free hands to screw them together. Somehow, I assembled it together in 3 hours cause the instructions were horrible, only one page. So most of the time I had to... wait for it... Wing it!! *Ba Dum Tss* (pun intended) Sorry I'm weird. :th_biggrin: I, at the time, didn't have any perches or toys to hang so it sat there sad and lonely for a few days. I had got some perches to decorate and Kai at first was not a fan of the cage but she warmed up to it. Here's her in the cage and the cage it self;

The toy she is hiding behind was made by me!! :pinkgrin: I had ordered some toy making supplies from http://makeyourownbirdtoys.com/ and experimented with a lot of things. While I was making toys, Kai decided she wanted to see what I was doing and flew over to my desk. Come to find out, she likes to play with brightly colored plastic charms and links. She also loves chewing on the crinkle paper that is stuffed into the toys. So far I have made 2 toys in which she seems to love, and I'm currently stuffing another toy I recently made.

Here are the two toys I finished;

Here is the one I'm stuffing with treats and crinkle paper;

I'm quite proud of myself. :th_smile:
Also I just received some RoudyBush pellet samples and need some opinions. Should I go with RoudyBush or Harrison's? I'm leaning a tad bit closers to Harrison's because its organic and I've heard some good feedback from other fellow bird owners. I'll post this question in the main forums but I just wanted to put it out there.
Today was the first day Kai was by herself at home while I attended school. I made sure she had fresh food, water, fruits, veggies and other necessities she would need while I was not home. Least I could say, she did great!! I came home and she saw me at the doorway and started squawking like a madbird. She seemed in a better mood today and even stepped up on my hand. I let her out of her cage for about an hour and taught her how to forage. I pretty much covered a nutriberry with a tissue and made a tiny hole so she could see the treat. She tore up the tissue. haha :pinkgrin: She then found a bread clip that was lying around and started to play with it. Too bad I couldn't upload a video because youtube is being weird. We worked on step up training and recall training and she is doing well. I let her rest in her cage for a while after. I made myself a salad and had some organic bell peppers left over and gave some to Kai. What do you know, she loves them. Here's her and her bell pepper;
She refused to step up after she was done eating so she could spend some time outside the cage. She probably didn't like her lunch witch was made up of mostly vegetables. Or probably the weather. Its been so gloomy today for a Sunday. Or worst thing, I pushed her limit a tad bit too far. But I'm kinda worried about her not being outside the cage as she been eating all day and/or I ruined our bonding :dispirited:.

Hi there!! Welcome to my new blog. I'm planning to record Kai's first few days/weeks/months with us. So here goes. :th_smile:

Kai, as most of you know had arrived yesterday. I know, I know. Today should be day 2 in her new home but I'm considering today day 1. Soooo, she is settling very well in her temporary cage. She is already playing with her toys and exploring the cage. She seems to be very comfortable with me as she is taking food out of my hand. I soon found out she like apples, grapes, and watermelon. She's not to fond of mangos. She absolutely loves nutriberries so I shall use that for treats.
She is a cuddle bug. This morning when I took her out to change the newspaper, I put her on my shoulder. I had a hoodie on cause its been raining hard down here. She then snuggles into my neck while I move around. Once I was done she refused to step up so sadly I had to gently grab her to put her back in the cage. I put some new food with some fresh fruits in her bowl for breakfast and she went straight for the apples. I changed her water while she was throwing mangos on the floor. Here's a picture of her with her apple.

It was around 10:00 Am here so I read her a 'I survived' book. I finished up at chapter 13. I left the room cause I thought she probably had enough of me this morning. hehe... :pinkgrin:
I came back about an hour later to let her out. She snuggled up in my hood, which I was wear backwards so I can see her. I got some computer work done and put her back in her cage.
I moved a toy around to where she could access it and what do you know. She started playing with it. At this very moment she is still playing with that toy. :th_biggrin:

I miss my baby so much, I loved her and I know she loved me too. I joined this forum to talk to people that understand what losing your pet bird is like, no one else understands why I am so upset about losing her, its been two months and I still cry over her death almost everyday. How do I feel better, it hurts so much :(

It has been very busy here at the rescue. With the holiday seasons life is busier for everyone and some things seem to get left behind.
Very soon one of our heart touching stories of Rugie a Salmon Crested Cockatoo will be posted in our local newspaper as pet of the day. I am hoping rugie can find a loving and accepting home from being featured in the article.

Tomorrow two Indian Ringneck parakeets will be going home to a very nice young lady that will cherish these guys for a long time, I am sure of that!

Coming after the holiday seasons a CAG named toby will more than likely be headed to his forever home with a man that made an instant bond with him. The guy has just the right attitude to work with toby and supply him with a life of love.

Lilly a medium Suplhur Crested Cockatoo was adopted and will be headed home Jan. 16. She was a very nervous bird and is very deserving of a great home in which she can flourish into a social happy cockatoo:).

Currently we have a ton of cockatoos and love birds that are looking for a home all of which can be found or seen posted usually daily on this page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-D...88?ref=tn_tnmn

We have received a huge amount of cage donations and plenty of other helpful stuff we are so thankful for!

I believe that is all I have to update on as far as adoptions/ donations.

Next I would like to talk about Diamond, she is a real Diamond in the rough. She is a wild caught African Grey that needs a ton of work. Yesterday I spent some time working with her and moving her into a better suited cage. Hopefully in the coming months she can calm down and learn to accept human interaction. She was left outside almost year round and expected to breed on a horrible diet and in a horrible environment. One night a predator came around and managed to kill her mate, but Diamond she survived. We where called the next day to pick up Diamond and another Grey that had been attacked and injured. Sadly the other grey died before we had a chance to take him to the vets. Diamond is with us and has a lot of issues trusting and being around people. She growls almost constantly when its anyone else but me and a select few other people. I have begun working with her on a day by day basis starting on Friday. Hopefully within a Month we can see Diamond ready to be adopted and find a loving person for this poor soul. I cannot imagine what I would be like to be ripped away from the wild as a young bird and thrown into so many deadly situations. My heart truly does bleed for this one!

Until next time!

Kind Regards,
