View Full Version : What kind of tree is this and is it safe?

I am looking to make some more perches and would like to uses some fallen branches in my yard. So what kind of tree is this and is it safe. I think its some kind of maple but am not sure.

It is a Maple Tree and YES it is safe:) Its only the Red Maple that is not good!

ok Thanks SO MUCH lol. Now is it ok to give him branches just to chew on? The women we got him from said she would get branches from outside ( which scared me cause I dont think she knew some could be bad for him) for him to chew on.
Are the leaves ok? If so I think he would have fun pulling them off if they are.

I totally agree. There are several flowers that are safe for the birds to eat too. Right now honeysuckle is blooming here and it is on the safe list. I live on organic soil which is very nice.

I know most of ya'll don't live down south where they grow, but I love using Mesquite tree limbs for my enclosures. They grow with nice twists & curves, and are tough wood that isn't chewed in two as fast as softer woods.

De'Andrea If you have the time could you take a photo of those branches you use as perches? They sound really nice.
