I just thought I'd share how Sam has changed since he's been with me. :) He is a Magna DYH who came to me when he was only 8 weeks old.

And THIS is how Sam's full brother Quincy looked at around 3 years.

Sam is adorable Wendy:) When he was young he actually looked like a YC and now he most definately looks like a DYH :)

Thank you, Wendy! With each additional yellow feather he grows, his attitude grows along with it. [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] ([Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks])
He IS a sweetheart though - most of the time. :)
Sam is a nice looking bird. So was Quincy :). I've always admired DYH's... I love their yellow feathers!

Thanks SO much, Tony!! You know, Quincy's been gone for well over 2 years now. He is buried in my garden, and I had a marble plaque made for him. You'd think that over time it would get easier thinking and talking about him. But each and every time I see Quincy's pictures and/or talk about him, I choke up and get teary eyed. He truly was a VERY very special baby!! :( Sam was never bought by me to "replace" Quincy, Sam is doing a fine job mending a broken heart though.

One of my favorite 'zons :love_heart: Its funny that I never hear the term Magna DYH except from those of you in the UK. Is this a mutation/subspecies thats available more over there?

You're not in the UK :redface-new:

I can't imagine losing any of my guys and I came pretty close to doing just that because of Maynard's stroke in 2011 :(. But thankfully he survived and is fairly fine now (albeit quite disturbingly LOUD much of the time) ;)

Nope, I'm living in New Jersey, but was born and raised in Germany.
To tell you the truth, I personally don't think the Magna IS a true sub-species. I think they are the same as the Amazona oratrix. The Magnas are supposingly a bit larger and have more extensive yellow coloring, but who knows?

^^ That is NOT Sam's breeder! I only paid $700 for Sam.
I got Sam from a breeder in Texas, and his papers actually do state "Magna Double Yellow Headed Amazon". :)
I surely can't wait to see what he will look like in 5 years down the road. [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] ([Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks])
