so it seems i've been able to get my G2 onto pellets (FINALLY).. the downside is she's chosen to eat only Zupreem :/ from what i understand, it's filled junk and really not good for the birds as a staple.

is there a brand of pellet that's generally healthy that absorbs water and puffs up instead of breaking down? i need something else to introduce her to. everyone else is on harrison's but they break down instead of absorbing which causes an issue with acceptance with my goffin. she's is piiiicckkkyy!

i've given them to her softened first for a few weeks, and then mixed in dry with the harrison's and fruit/veggie blend but she picked out only the zupreem. i think if i can soften a better pellet and introduce it that way, she'll eat it dry in her mix. all of the good organic pellets i've tried always break apart... any suggestions?

Any pellet is better then none so let's start there:) and I am an advocate for zu preem I love it honestly and I find it to be much better then many pellet brands out there. I mean would avian vets and zoos around the world advocate for it as well? Its upto what you like your birds to eat be your choices on the brand you want to support... As far as research goes pretty bird has the most background research in what wild parrots thrive on and eat they sent a group all over the world to study all of this and fortify there pellets, many other companies have used what they found out;).

It's upto you but I see nothing wrong with zu preem espically if she likes it, it's much better then all seeds or worse.

hmm, maybe i'll stick with them then.. she's really grown to like them and i swear i don't care if she eats as long as she's off of formula :miserable:

i totally see your point though, that's what makes me wonder why they're so "bad" :/

I feed zopreem! I have been feeding it for over 25 years. my TAG has been eating it for 15.

I feed zu preem as well. All of my guys love it and it was recommended to us by our vet.

Zupreem isn't junk. Compare the ingredients and analysis to other pellets, and you will see they are all about the same. Many zoos feed it, and my Nanday eats it. I am of the philosophy that whatever pellet I can get them converted to is what they get, lol! Which is why I'm feeding 2 different pellets here. Merlin eats Harrison's, Rowdy eats Zupreem, and I gave Pete both and he chose the Harrison's. Now the funny part is Rowdy was originally converted to Harrison's, but my Blue Crown was very, very hard to get on pellets. Finally I got her to eat a Zupreem Fruitblend one and got her on those. I put Rowdy on them to make it easier for me. Well, 12 years later, Rowdy only wants the Zupreem.

I know some people are concerned about the dyes. Are they bad? I'm not sure anyone knows the answer to that yet, in people or animals. But, Rowdy is a very healthy, active 13 year old Nanday who always passes her vet checks and blood work with flying colors.

I also feed Zupreem......you can see my birds in my siggy and Ive also posted pics of them.

So far so good, I have tried Harrisons, Roudybush, Golden Obles, and nobody will touch any of it except Elliot will munch on Golden Obles. I used to stress out so much about the pellets and then I realized dont try to fix whats not broken!

I don't really see the dyes being an issue, there has been no reports linked to the dyes causing issues it is more of people saying they don't want to add that additive into there animal. Also a lot of people that are against dyes give there birds colored wood toys so they just paradox themselves when doing that IMO. I love Zu preem and I don't see an issue at all but that is me.

P.s. if anyone can find a report on dyes being bad for the animals I'd be very interested in reading it:).

O and I'd like to add the only pellet I am somewhat against is golden feasts pellet, they had a talk around this area about it and a friend of mine attended as she is big into this kinda thing (she is a huge believer in pretty bird), golden feasts rep at the talk turnt around and said all of the ingredients were coming from china to try and make there pellet cheaper for the public... I didn't really like that at all because there products still arnt cheap yet they are using products from china to produce them. Just my two cents on golden feast...

I'm feeding a bit of the Goldenfeast Carribean Bounty blend.

There is a lot of talk these days about "organic" and "natural" foods as opposed to additives like dyes. I do see people living longer than they ever have and that oldest generation grew up doing and eating a lot of things that seem to make people crazy now, lol! So while I don't see any nutritional value to things like dyes I'm not convinced they are the devil either. And for all I know those preservatives in food are preserving them :th_shocked3:

Lol, I sure don't have all the answers, but I think maybe we worry too much sometimes. Geez, look at the horrible chemicals they used to use in farming 30+ years ago. Yes, they probably are responsible for some cancers, particularly to the farmers who were using them, and yet a good portion of these people are alive and doing quite well compared to their ancestors before them. So while I don't advocate doing stupid things or using dangerous things when newer stuff is much safer, maybe we shouldn't worry as much as we do, and take time to enjoy our lives while we are living them.

this is fantastic information guys, thanks so much!!!

looks like we're sticking to zupreem!! she's got the choice of harrison's mixed in with everything else, including the pellet that already comes in the veggie/fruit blend they're given so.. if she eats the other stuff, then great! i'm just happy she's not begging me for forumla anymore!

this weekend, as a matter of fact, she's been transferred over to normal birdy yum yums, just like everyone else lol FINALLY!! *dances and kisses the ground*

my house is SOOO much quieter with her being a big girl now lol
