Thought I'd better put a few of my ekkie girl Leyla Belle's photos up. She is really my best subject to take photos of. She will sit still & pose and loves the attention, hence just one of the reasons I call her 'The Diva' of my flock! :th_heart: I love her confident 'I'm all that and then some' attitude! She is my best talker, preferring to learn phrases more so than single words.

My best friend Marlene from Buffalo, NY added to her name when I first got her. I originally named her Leyla La Ru and Mar decided it needed a bit of flare and added the Belle & longhorn to it. Mar has never been to Texas, we actually have not met in person yet. She wants to come down & loves lots of things we have down here such as longhorns. I tell her she is a displaced 'Southern Belle'. :th_biggrin: So anyway, right after I got Leyla Belle Mar took one of her photos & added big lashes & a bow on her head with the caption "Well Bless Your Heart" on it. So I have been teaching her to say in my best 'Delta Bourke', syrupy southern accent I can muster up: "Well bless your heart, I do declare. My name is Miss Leyla Belle La Ru Longhorn and don't you forget it!!" She has picked up the "Well bless your heart" part so far.

I did teach her to say: "Well Howdy There Marlene" for when Mar comes down & it is just too cute for words to hear her drawl the 'Marlene' part out. I have been trying to catch it on video, but she shuts up! Even in the dark when I sneak up on her she knows I'm trying to get it.

Gorgeous pics.

She sounds just like Codie in regards to being video shy:) He will chat away, but, as soon as he sees the video camera, he goes dumb:(

She's beautiful! My Lucy won't talk unless my hubby is rubbing her neck and cuddling with her. Then she says "Oh Pretty Girl". Pretty girl used to be her name. We changed it to something simpler.

She is beautiful! It must be a kick to hear her repeat your southern phrases. I could only imagine how cute that must sound!

Thanks everyone! Leyla Belle loves to be talked to, she eats up the attention. She is not a real 'touchy feely' girl. She has been that way since I brought her home at 6 months old. She is so independent that she doesn't like to be held much, but I can hold her when she is in the mood.

Terri, I did make all my play perches myself with the help of hubby of course. I use his brute strength & my brains. :th_hehe: They are not what you would call beautiful, but they are very useful & cheap to make. :th_biggrin:

Justin, Leyla Belle absolutely adores her basket! I first put it in her cage while I was waiting for her to finish weaning at her breeder's. Before she came home I thought she might be afraid of it & took it out. A couple of weeks ago I was gathering all my toy making stuff & found it again. I still had some of the wicker type bird shredding material & decided to weave it into the basket & hang it on her play perch. Well, she went right to it, ripped all of the wicker off in 3 days & has been waiting for me to replace it. I have more, but have not had the time to accommodate her. So she gets in it & swings & just loves the thing!! :th_loltears:

Blanca, my southern drawl sounds much cuter coming out of that little fluff of red feathers than it ever has from me! :th_LOL: What I find funny is that my macaw boys don't seem to be picking up the drawl like Leyla Belle is. I think she was meant to be a 'True Southern Belle'. :th_heart:
