Josie goes to school tomorrow. We will be visiting my son's class. I just spoke to his teacher and we have decided to take the class outside with her. I'm a bit nervous because I don't like to talk in front of people, but also relieved since I won't have to worry about cleaning up her mess. I've been so worried about this since she has been a bit nippy lately, but last night we were out for over an hour. She was in her harness and LOVED being outside. There were absolutely no issues with her behavior last night at all. :th_biggrin:

Any last minute bits of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't be nervous. They are kids and aren't judging you :) Just relax, have fun and enjoy this special day.

Oh that sounds so exciting & the kids will love her!!:th_hug8: Photos would be wonderful, but probably hard to do since you will have your hands full with a big beautiful blue feather muff! :th_biggrin: You will have to tell us all about the day.

My son is grown now, but when I had my Nanday conure way back in the mid '90s, I took him, my Iguana, my son's ball Python & one of our Chinchillas to his Biology class one day. It was hilarious to see the faces of teachers passing by as we hauled in the carriers.:th_LOL:

As everyone stated they are just kids, i can over the advice of laying ground rules with them right away. Like please do not get loud and hyper around the bird do not touch the bird unless you ask(if josie would put up with that), just little things like that is what i do when i head to an outreach with a younger generation.

youll be fine and maybe even turn one of the kids into a bird lover;).

Yesterday was the big day...Josie went to school! She was exceptional! My son was so proud. Surprisingly, most people were not afraid of her big beak. Everyone wanted to pet her, but she only allowed a select few to touch her. She did, however, go right to my son's teacher without any bluffing at all. It was such a good day for all involved. Also, she did shock me with a new word that we have been trying for months to get her to say....one of the kids said, "she is awesome" and her reply was a very clear "thank you" I was so happy. I created a new album under my profile if anyone is interested in checking it out but can't seem to get the pics to show up in the thread.

I'm glad it went so well, and she was even so polite!

If I took Merlin to school she would make fart imitations to get everyone to laugh :th_embarassed:

I am so glad it went so well! See it wasn't so bad was it:p?

Educating people about these birds no matter what age is an amazing thing to do and very fulfilling!:)

You get used to it, the first time I went out it was with a friend and he brought like 12 of his mainly cockatoos and eclectus and I brought our greenwing.. I was so overwhelemed with all these birds keeping track and so on and my friend was so calm and I watched him and got used to how to manage this and it worked out I got very used to this capacity of birds:)... Although I don't think I'd want out so many cockatoos. On a good day he'd bring out his large m2, his mobrella, one of his umbrellas, his one pair of eclectus if not two, a severe macaw sometimes, a ducorps cockatoo, a galah and I mean the m2 and the mobrella were enough lol!

I usually bring 2-3 macaws and the mini so about four, the m2 or galah, the caique, the eclectus, my Senegal and amazon usually just the Senegal. And that sets me enough for a day of handling as we usually talk with a few hundred people at these shows. I rotate the macaws as well somehow boo always ends up going though lol!(people ask for boo at shows now...) there are a few of mine that can't come out but for the most the whole house can.

The only ones that can't come out is the red bellied parrot(she is still working over some issues), my blue crowned as she is just old and doesn't want bothered with many people, she will tolerate it but not much more then that. And the female ring neck of our bonded pair she is old as well and does not really like a lot of people, but her partner marley can come out:).

So now that you got my show speech lol!

I guess you would get a good system going after doing for awhile! How do you transport so many birds at once?

jtbirds
05-26-2013, 07:37 PM
Well in carriers and we are very good at packing the car;) lol! Although I have a Bad habit of letting a few of my macaws ride on me in the car(I do not suggest it at all!) they just love riding and are so respectful about it that I have allowed them to ride on the seat or shoulder

Blancaej

Well you know your birds and I think that is key to letting them ride in the car without being in the carrier. Plus, you understand the risks. I wouldn't recommend people to do it either. If you ever move, I'm sure you will have good packing skills. LOL! :th_biggrin:

Lol when we moved the first time we were horrible maybe if we do again it wont be soo bad.. I should say I have good packing skills my father is a thrower and just throws it wherever it fits-.-.
