So I've officially had Savannah with me for one month as of May 16th! I am really pleased at our progress. I can get her out of her cage to step up on my arm like clock work. She has even stepped up for me a few times when outside on her cage. Which she can be quite stubborn about at times! She is a little cuddle muffin and I am able to put her up to my chest and cuddle with her and pet her. I am also able to give her kisses on her beak and head. She is such a sweet little girl!

Our biggest issue has been her squaking scaring my 3 year old son, but things are getting better as we teach my son that she is just making noise and will not hurt him. He loves her otherwise. He gets to close now and then but she has given him warnings and he is learning to give her space! He is never around her without supervision of course! But, other then that, it is going well!

So we've had Savannah's old cage in storage since we brought her home. I didn't like the size so as many of you know I bought her a new one. I thought I would share some pictures of her old cage with you. I took them for the auto body shop I'm going to talk to about repainting it with some birdie safe paint. It's in good shape considering it is about 18 years old! I hope to have it recoated by my neighbor who does auto body work. I need to talk to him this week about it. I have it at my store. I think it would make a great cage for her store visits. It has a great play top that goes on it that they never used. It is in storage at home and I don't have pictures handy. I'm hoping we can have it fixed up rather then having to buy another cage at work. It has extensive paint damage so hopefully we can get it repaired. Kind of small for a main cage that she lived in most of her young adult life and not getting out on a regular basis. I'm just glad we have her in a better situation at this point! Here are the pics. Enjoy!

Also, has anyone every had a cage recoated and know what the cost runs? I know it can very. I'm just looking for a general idea.

If you have it sanded down and re-coated, I would think it would be an excellent part-time cage! Sorry, I can't help you with pricing. Sure seems small for a full time cage, though. I'm glad you got her a bigger one!

Mare - I think it will be perfect for our store so she can hang out. But I agree, it's way too small for her regular cage. I am glad I got her a bigger one! Her new one is 6.5 feet tall!

I'm not 100% based on the pics but it does look like it could be an old California Cage. I know I looked at powder coating costs on a smaller cage and it was going to be about $20-30 per panel. Now remember you will have the 4 sides, the top, the grate and tray when you put costs together. And that was a much smaller cage. I was considering taking an old used double stack and redoing it to make one wide, deep but very low height cage for my Grey, who is blind. In the end, factoring in all expenses I realized I could buy her a new, large King's double stack instead for about $20 more and I went that route. However, I was going to have additional expenses on my project like: buying the cage for $50, gas to go get it, building a cabinet for it to sit on.

Thanks Audrey that is helpful. It just reminds me to factor in all the possible costs to doing this. I hope to talk to my neighbor this week. I will update this thread with what I find out. If it will cost me about $100 to $150 it may be still worth. The play top that attaches is like new so I don't need to have that done. I will have to check the bottom tray and see what kind of condition that is in.
