Looking out of the window it is a grey dreich day with sleet showers. But Casper has started a serious molt of his smaller feathers. He obviously has the impression that spring is on the way because the evenings are getting later. :)

We are in the midst of the January thaw. The weather was beautiful yesterday, however, February is notorious for winter storms.:th_eek:

Yes Helena, we always get a massive snow fall in February.
Spring could be on the way..but..WAIT!!..what happened to winter?!! We are still waiting for winter here in California! My ‘toos, including cockatiels seem to molt year long..

Casper stopped moulting for about a month. Mind you he was rather ill in that period. He is certainly making up for it now, for the last two days he has moulted more small feathers than you can balance in the palm of your hand and has been preening furiously, occasionally growling when he knocks a blood feather. Today there was a primary feather in the bottom of the cage when he was uncovered but whether this was due to come out or got knocked out we are not sure. He knocked a butt feather out yesterday, unfortunately not the one that has been sticking out at right angles for a week. Right turn Clyde.
I don't know what to think about this weather, and I also noticed that it wasn't dark outside at 5pm here as it usually is and has been til recently. Yesterday it was feeling like spring as I didn't even feel I needed a sweater till after 8 pm.

Well, the weather has turned colder, the feathers have stopped coming out and there is a lot of new feather growth going on, enough to make us look like we have been sprinkled with sugar after a few minutes of him sitting on a shoulder preening. Casper has just been put in his cage for the night and I have just been given a going over with the vacuum cleaner by Margaret :)

Hmm, woke up to snow showers today and wondered if God is a parrot and has just had a good shake :)

6 inches of snow here last night. I think spring is still a ways away for us.

Time to resurrect this thread :)
It was sunny all day today and is forecast to be the same tomorrow. It was also WARM and Casper spent time this afternoon in the Magnolia tree responding to the voices of the passing schoolchildren and having a sort of conversation with a blackbird. The black bird would twitter a few bars of lovely tune to which Casper would reply 'eh-eh-ugh' and 'Georgie Porgie Pie'.
The Magnolia tree has really suffered from the frost earlier in the year. Last year it had wonderful flowers before the leaves came but this year there are only a few and they don't look too good.

We have snow here...what a pita. The robins are back, but it's hard to get any worms from snow covered ground.
My magnolia tree is looking pretty sad too. At least Casper was able to enjoy the weather.

Strangely, the magnolia trees about four miles away in the town looked magnificent about a week ago. I suppose it must be a couple of degrees warmer there without the wind burn. Today was the hottest April day since 1949 in the UK. I expect it will be cold and raining by the beginning of May when we will be getting the floppytop Saab out of the barn and taxing it for six months on the road.
Casper had a nice couple of hours out in the Magnolia tree before something spooked him so I brought him indoors. Not sure what spooked him, the only things I could see that might have caused him concern was a jackdaw on the roof ridge of the maltings with its wings open, sunbathing, or a thrush pecking away at a fat ball that was on the lawn. He may have spotted a cat somewhere. He has incredible eyesight for predators and quite often gives his alarm call when indoors and sees a cat or fox in the field on the other side of the road.

Here in Illinois the weather doesn't know if it wants to be Spring or Winter. It'll be snowing one day and warm the next. My birds though think it's actually Spring and are very hormonal. I can't wait for it to actually be warm so I can let them go outside.

I have absolutely no clue what the season is right now. We spent 2 days without power due to the freezing rain we had for 3 days over last weekend. Now the sun is shining and the temperature is double digits.
Sounds to me like the weather is anything but normal any where. Or the same everywhere...tilted.....

In Australia autumn season has been started, I just love this season.
Autumn is very nice indeed, lots of great comfort food and winter veggies!

Still doing clean up from the storm 2 weeks ago. 2 houses on our left lost a tree and four houses on our right also lost a tree. The one on the right ripped out all the hydro lines. May sure did come in with a bang.

Mother Nature certainly seems to be confused here. It has been raining for just about a week straight. Isn’t it April showers bring May flowers? ;)

Well summers come and gone and the air is getting a bit cooler. The leaves are turning colour and falling. Meanwhile indoors... its a floofy fall-out zone. :)

Same here. Just getting over the floofies, thank goodness. Now to tackle those pesky falling leaves.
Autumn is such a lovely time of the year! The cooler air seems more fresh and rejuvenating.

Yep, its definitely much cooler but we are having some fine days once the mist has cleared in the morning.
Casper has stopped shedding floofies and has loads of pin feathers which he wants us to tease out but complains like heck if we get it wrong... but then immediately grabs at a finger and asks us to carry on. Its quite nerve wracking :)
Strangely, considering how many new feathers are coming through, he has not moulted more than one or two old ones.
