I just learned Lafeber is bringing out a Nutriberry specially formulated for senior birds (which they define as a bird that has reached at least half of it's expected lifespan). All of my birds fit into that category. I see they have added milk thistle, dandelion and ginger, which is what Pete takes twice a day for his fatty liver disease.

I am going to get some the next time I need to stock up. I'm especially hoping Pete likes them as he will only eat the tropical fruit ones.

Sounds good Audrey:) I know how much Pete loves them.

I have tried Codie so many times on all the different flavours and he will not touch them:( He is just so fussy :th_LOL:

Wish they would make tiny ones for tiny birds.

They do make a cockatiel size in the original and gourmet flavors that you could probably break in half for the budgies since they don't hold food in their feet. However, it looks like so far they are only offering these new senior ones in the largest size. I will likely have to break them in half for Rowdy. Maybe if they start selling well they will offer more sizes though.

They crumble really easy, my roommate has two budgies and I give them berries all the time in there treat dish.

They do. Use a fork to do it, Di, since it can be hard to do with your fingers with the arthritis. I know I usually have to use a fork to do it as well.

The Avi cakes are easier to crush I think. Right when you open the Nutriberries they are softer and crush easier but as time goes by and they lose some moisture, I have to use a fork to do it.

I also put them on a plastic lid to crush them as the lid has some give. When I use a plate they tend to go flying like miniature cannon balls, lol!

When Merlin goes in for her vet appointment at the end of the month I will ask Dr O about the senior berries and give you all more info as she is a nutritional consultant for Lafeber. I am wondering if Pete would need less medication if he ate those instead? It would save me some money and he'd be getting actual food with the mt/dandelion/ginger. As it is now he will only take it mixed into a spoonful of mashed potatoes. At least the berries have vitamins and minerals and are healthier than the potatoes are.
