I have a friend who powder coats. He tossed out the idea of building a custom 9' tall by 5' wide and 3 ' deep cage. The question is what would be the biggest wire space we could get away with. Is 2"x4" to big?

Will all of the birds be going in it ? (not all at one time) I'm not following what you are asking ..... 2 inch bar spacing is too big for a TAG and way too big for your others. My CAG is in 1 inch. Not sure if I'm understanding the question. :)

Sorry I posted it under macaw because I am getting a rehomed macaw that has been living cage free. None of my other birds will be in the macaw cage.

1" is generally used for macaws.

My double Macaw has 1.25" spacing and seems to work out just fine. But I do have a large macaw ( 24.5" tail feathers). Keep in mind how you are measuring that also. The 1.25" spacing I am talking about is from bar to bar. If I measure from center to center its 1.33". Hope that helps.

It looks great! Although what the heck do they have in the bottum of it? And what are they doing with the galah that is in it? Just be sure you sanitize it very well before using it!:)

Its outside waiting for pressure wash and bleach! And that little guy was living in here! The bottom had food dishes and "toys" Its in a much better sized cage now.

I hope they took those rings down and didn't Allow so many as I've had a couple birds get caught up in long strands of them. My amazon used to love them and then got his feet and almost neck caught in those things so now I only use one or two to hang stuff. Just my two cents if it is worth it:p, And I ment in the bottum tray it looked almost like cat litter lol.

Glad to hear I am sure the macaw will love it!

I will try to pass that along. I do love them as a way to hang toys.

O they are great to hang toys, but my amazon came with a strand of 5 or 6 and i thought it was great he loved them and then one morning i woke up to him all tangled and crazy.. just trying to look out for the safety of these guys:)!

Shelly, you asked if 2"X3" spacing would work with macaws in a custom cage. That is the size of the spacing on my enclosures since they are kennels & it works out great with my macaws. Even the Catalinas can't get their heads through the spaces & Roscoe was 4 1/2 months old when he first came to live here. I use natural limbs for perches and I love being able to walk inside to do whatever I need.

The size of the custom caging you are considering sounds great too. Plenty of room for a macaw to stretch its wings & play while inside. If you do make a custom cage, please make a thread on it. I would love to see the finished product.:th_biggrin:

I am going to build a custom, but for now I was given a 7' tall 4' wide 3' deep dome top cage. Need to clean it up and put it together.
