Cute pic of Chewie with his head tilted looking back at you. Makes me wonder what is he thinking about such a large feather?

Yes, spring is in the air* here too and there are feathers everywhere at Spring Cottage. Casper has been eating an incredible amount so it is obviously a planned exercise. We have to be very careful about touching him though. Lots and lots of pin feathers making him a bit edgy.

*whereas it was warm and sunny a couple of weeks ago, yesterday we had lots of sleet and hail showers and there was quite a frost last night. :(

Be sure and let Casper know he's not alone in the pin feather area. Lady is full of them too. When she let's me give her a scratch on her head and neck I can feel them. I try and break the sheath but she doesn't seem to want me to do anything but rub them together or just massage the area.
Frost and hail, oh goodness.... what is going on with the temperature extremes, I've heard a lot of crazy reports about these things over the last few years. I know when the weather should be a certain way and it frustrates me that it isn't I'm always reminding myself it could be worse, but boy I miss when we could count on "normal" temperatures. :toyou:

Not only do we get growled at when we accidentally hurt him, he also growls at himself when he makes a mistake preening.

I could probably make a pillow with all the feathers on the floor each day.

A pillow, WOW that's a lot of feathers. That is an interesting idea which made me wonder if there would be a market for such things. How about a feather lined cozy for our birds to cuddle up with :victorious:??

I could probably do it with the accumulation from my four guys, but I suspect their larger feathers would be too stiff and unbendable. Although I may actually have enough of their smaller, fluffy ones :)

Your right the larger feathers wouldn't make a good pillow, but maybe we could make something for our birds. I was thinking about the cozy hut I've seen online and in other's cages. Maybe it would help insulate the hut to keep they warm in the cold months.
I save some of Lady's feathers but not all the little fluffy ones, I just don't know what to do with them, she is much smaller than your guys and they are too. Maybe you could (or anyone who might be interested) post some pics of the smaller fluffy ones. Compared to Lady's they're big.

He'd be terrified of the thing. There are plenty of smaller feathers around here to photograph. So yes, if you want I should be able to snap a pic or two of some of them.

Feathers are fantastic. From the tiny tiny ones around the beak to the long and elegant primary flight and tail feathers. All different, some with down attached, and then all the colours. Can you imagine the parts catalogue at FeathersRus. Its not surprising Casper occasionally gets it wrong and has a yellow one amongst all the green. :)
