I ended up with this bird. She was one of many birds abandoned in a home after her owner died. She then spent several years in a heated room in a barn until all the other birds found new homes and she was in this room alone. She has a leg band but I haven't been able to read the number. She's not friendly and I'm trying to limit my handling of her until she's better settled into her new environment. I don't know what kind of bird she is. Can anyone help me identify her? She is slightly larger than the average cockatiel.

Hello and welcome to PP. I'm sure that someone here will be able to identify her, unfortunately I am not very knowledgeable. She is very pretty and looks a bit like an Amazon of some sort, maybe a hybrid.
I hope she responds to your love and attention, are you planning on giving her a forever home?

Yes, this pretty girl is here to stay! She has her forever home with us. We decided to call her Yzma. I'm told she's definitely a female and has laid eggs. I was also told that she's a Rosella, but I don't think she looks quite like a Rosella. She's definitely smaller than other Amazon's I've seen. Her age was estimated at 10-13 years but we don't really know.

Welcome to the forum. I believe your bird looks like a rock pebbler. Thank you for taking in this poor bird. I am sure with some time she will settle in for you. We are looking forward to hearing more about her:th_smile:

Thank you! She looks just like pictures of rock pebbler/regent parrots. I knew she couldn't be a Rosella!
Greetings Kiltsrhott... thanks for joining our community :)
I agree with Helena. Your bird appears to be a Rock Pebbler (AKA Regent Parrot). I believe they're considered one of the Australian Grass Parakeet species. She's a very nice looking bird! Congratulations on the adoption :D
