The past week has been a very busy stressful time,
On Monday my daughter went into the hospital with what they thought was pneumonia. They kept her overnight but it ended up it wasn't pneumonia, but it is believed it was carbon monoxide poisoning. When they (her and her boyfriend) checked the carbon monoxide detector in the place they were renting there was a bad connection with the wiring and it didn't sound the alarm. She has moved back home (lease was up the end of February anyways). We believe this is why she has been getting ill so much the past year. We picked up her things on Tuesday and spent the day arranging (and doing laundry)
On Wednesday my Mom and I went in to town. When I parked the car and got out there was a strong smell of gas. Sure enough I had a gas leak in the fuel line in the car. Luckily Canadian Tire is in the same area, so in I go. "Sure we can do it for you, it will be about 5 hours." Okay then, our Canadian Tire is not that big of a store and Mom with dementia and in a wheelchair was not the ideal situation. Well we made it through the day though and went for dinner.:th_wink:
On Thursday I was contacted by a woman with a sick cockatiel. She couldn't afford to take to the vet. I tried but to explain the importance but no avail. I didn't want to abandon her nor the bird so we emailed back and forth for 3 days (166 emails). This poor little one was sitting at the bottom of the cage, puffed up, eyes almost closed, not eating, not drinking and barely able to stand. She was terribly upset, but I was getting frustrated with her. I tried to explain the importance of quarantine, but she just couldn't get it. She had her budgie in the same cage as the cockatiel. Finally, she took the cockatiel out, put in a box with a heat pad underneath, used an eye dropper to feed him pedialyte, gave him a bath to clean the vent (which she told me was pretty messed up), kept him in a towel until he was dry.
Well, this little one after the third day was sitting up on the perch with his eyes wide, eating, and drinking on his own. I advised her to get him to a vet as soon as possible. I am waiting to hear an update.
On Friday my nieces one year old son went into hospital with pneumonia. My niece had him there four times and they kept sending her home with him. Finally my brother went with her and they admitted him.
Today my brother came for a visit and he got a text from his daughter "Hey Dad, are you close? We have a skunk in the house" He left to go and help.
Well.........
That was my week. Never a dull moment. At least we are all safe and sound, getting back to being healthy, and still smiling.:th_biggrin:
