I thought we could have a thread that people could post how their parrot has enriched or taught them things. I will start off with a couple of things and add more as they come to mind.
1. I have learned to keep my thumb tucked in when getting a bird to step up. Only took 3 bites! One from a hormonal dyh Amazon who didn't want to let go and two from my Sennie, the little stinker.
2. I have learned that I really don't mind bird poop. It's the wet food on the walls and floor and regurgitated food that grosses me out.

I learned a long time ago not all birds are cuddly and like to be kissed. A few fat lips from my first IRN taught me this.
I also learned responsibility. Taking care of my little budgie at the age of 10 was important, but the time I spent with him was probably some of my most pleasurable experiences.

1. I've learned not wear my black-framed reading glasses within range of Salsa. When I do, they pay the ultimate price ;)
2. I've learned that exercising much patience and tolerance is the only way to live around Maynard. He is too old and too tenacious to ever change :D
3. I've learned that love and trust from one's parrot are to be treasured! Never violated!!

How many fat lips did it take Rosalyn? I only kiss my Barrabands. They don't bite, thank goodness.

I would say probably three or four. He would sit on my shoulder and say "Awwe cuddles" I would turn and he would get my lip. I learned very quickly "cuddles" to him meant something completely different than it do to me.
Funny though, he never bit my hand, cheek or anywhere else. Maybe he thought it was a kiss.
I've learned that I'm attracted to the cuteness and beautiful colors of a parrot.
I've learned that a parrot is more than cute and beautiful.
I've learned that a parrot is a forever family member that can never be replaced no matter what they destroy or how loud they can be.
I've also learned that many times I can expect the unexpected when we're together.
Alice, you said it all! It's amazing to me how deeply these little creatures can burrow into your heart. They are such an alien being but become a huge part of us...how did THAT happen..?.

I know my husband would agree. He was never a bird lover, never owned one and didn't really pay much attention to them. His best friend now is a little green quaker he spoils with love, affection and numerous treats. I am starting to get a little jealous. :th_wink:
