I know, hard to tell. It's Shaggy. This bird is so the same and so different than Amigo but he's pretty awesome, too!

Shaggy is absolutely beautiful, as I am sure Amigo was as well. They look like they have such strong personalities. Shaggy looks so content sitting there.

Are you familiar with U2's, Rosalyn? First off, I should have said thank you, yes..Shaggy is a beauty. :)

I have done some research and have visited at rescue facilities and breeders, but I have never been owned by one. I always wanted a too. The first time I saw one was on the T.V. show Baretta, I think I was about 7. Loved them from that day on. I have considered getting one, but it would not be fair to him/her as I know I don't have the room here nor the time to give it my full attention. One day when the house is not so busy I will consider again.

Shaggy looks quite at home in that pic. He's a beautiful bird with all his feathers too. So many start plucking and it looks like he has weathered his life's journey pretty well.

So nice to see him enjoying the garden. Does he have a fave tree yet?

Wow, Shaggy does look like Amigo. The only difference I notice is a personality thing. Amigo had more of a swagger and mischievous glint in his eye. Shaggy just looks thrilled. Does he like being outside?

Sadly, from what I've learned..the show Baretta brought an onslaught of breeders to breed these birds. They deserve so much more than what we can give them. I love these birds and am happy to be a part of their lives but I would NEVER buy from a breeder. There are so many given up to rescues because they can be hard to live with.

Yes, Helena, he seems to be a well adjusted U2! This makes me happy :)

So far, Jean-Pierre, this is his only tree! :). It's a small apricot tree right next to the deck. It's on the up-hill side of the property so if he jumped off he would be easy to fetch up.

Kendra, Amigo had much more "swag" than Shaggy has. Shaggy loves being outside! His wings have a brutal clip so he can't go far if he did take off.

I was not aware of that.

I am aware many are being rehomed or taken to rescues, I see it all the time and it's sad. I always believed it was because of the size and loudness of the bird and people are intimidated. Mind you there are many reasons a bird gets rehomed. Some are legit, and some are just people that never should have had the bird to begin with. I fully believe in doing your research before bringing any animal into the home, be it a bird, or a dog. I can never understand listening to people's conversations and comments like "I travel too much or am not home very much so I can't get a dog, but maybe a bird". As a bird lover it is frustrating to hear, and I wish they would take a long hard look at their living situation before jumping in. Okay, that is my rant:th_wink: I guess I could have put this in the gripe thread.

Wow look at that happy boy he seems lovely mare I'm happy that you seem to be enjoying him ..I too think it's horrible so many people get birds and then don't relize all the time and work along with the money that they take .. Are toos louder than macaws... I think they seem instresting .. I think shaggy looks stunning in his tree

Yes, Jenn, Shaggy seems to be a happy boy :) he's the most interesting being, I'm enjoying him immensely. I've never had the previdege of being a macaw caregiver but I believe they can be more loud than a cockatoo..if that is possible.

Not just me but all the men in my family are happy with my choice of Shaggy. He's super chill, not much bothers him. Im not sure if it's because that's just his temperament or he's got many more years of experience than I originally thought/was told, being around on this earth. I'm thinking he's way older than 12yrs.

Yes, Amigo had that spark of mischief in his eyes..always plotting, that he was!

Hi, Rosalyn :). No info as of yet. I called one of the numbers from the info Tony gave me and the woman there couldn't help me but gave me another phone # to call. She called it the Bird Banding Lab, located in Maryland and said that they should be able to help me with my questions. I left a message asking for a return call. Sooo..that's where I'm at..
