Since we have a gripe thread, I thought we should maybe have a brag thread. A thread where we can share good things that are happening or just something that put a smile on our faces?
I will start since I had a humdinger of a gripe this week. :)
My daughter got a new ukulele this week. She had never played before and we were teasing her that it would sit in a corner. Well, she has proven us all wrong. In 3 days she has taught herself 2 songs. Big astonished smile here.
She was also asked to do a vocal solo for a Christmas Tree Lighting in December. I am a very proud Mama of my musically inclined daughter.
Who else has something happy to post?
That's so awesome! I hope your daughter stays with it, is she in band at school?
Some may find this an odd thing to brag/be proud of..my vegan medical student son finally "came out". I'm so proud of him for doing this! All I've EVER wanted for this kid was, to be happy..he is FINALLY becoming comfortable in his own skin and will make an amazing OBGYN, his field of choice. The ladies LOVE him! :)

No, she isn't in band. Up until recently her instrument was her voice only. She started piano to learn to read music and now I guess ukulele. :)
I think it is an awesome thing to brag/be proud about!!! It is HUGE that he is comfortable with himself. I am so very happy for him and you both! He has a very bright future ahead of him!
Thanks, Kendra :). These past months he's been "following" an obstetrician's patient for each of her appointments. He meets the pregnant woman in the waiting room, at each appointment, and goes in with her to see her doctor. This is all set up through the school. UC Davis Medical Center, in Sacramento is a teaching hospital.
I asked Wyatt how the hubby/father of the baby, felt about him being there? Wyatt said that he got pretty bad vibes at first. Wyatt is very good looking and I suggested that he let his patients/husbands know that he is gay. OMG! no..
She called when she was in labor and Wyatt got to help with delivery, he was in heaven! :)
Kendra, Wyatt is an accomplished musician and he started with piano lessons! Learning music is also known to be correlated to good math scores! :)

Kendra and Mare, both are worth bragging about. Nothing better than the accomplishments of our kids.
My brag is about my son. He is an excellent guitar player, finger picking style. When I had a rough day at work I would plop down on his bed and say "play me my song", it always made me feel better. We text back and forth right now because he is away at University. He sent me a text one day asking how everything was. Told him it was okay, had a rough day though. About an hour later I got a text "Mom, check your email". When I opened the email from him, I had tears in my eyes. He recorded himself playing my song and sent it to me.
It always feels great when you know you did something right.
Yep..that's the truth, Rosalyn! :). I think that raising our children to believe that what they think and what they do matters, is HUGE! They also have to know that we love them.

No need for kids to brag. It's for anything happy or good that you want to share. :)
Love that Lucky is getting out and about. Did he get a lot of attention from everyone you saw?
As far as the ukulele goes, check YouTube. That is how she learned. It's amazing how much my kids have learned from YouTube. From makeup to programming computers and making gamesites. Such an awesome resource, especially for visual learners. Wish it was around when I was a kid. I had to schlep to the library or use an encyclopedia to find out new things. ;)

Kendra, Joey usually swears at me if/when there is a disruption to his order or he gets over stimulated. So I am guessing the last couple of days have been non eventful. We will see what tomorrow brings.:th_biggrin:

Unfortunately, Joey made up today what he missed the last two days and it's still morning! I have been told to "get back in your cage" " f****** shut up" etc. I think he is missing his time on my shoulder so I sat with him for a while so he could watch my IPad with me. He seems calmer now. I just love that little stinker.
Not so sure about my sons though...they think it is hilarious when they can get Joey to learn another nasty word. Thank goodness they live on their own.:th_biggrin: Joey has had fewer and fewer incidents of swearing and I am working on rewarding that behaviour.

It's cute. But you might inform your sons that birds who learn foul language have a significantly lower chance of being adopted by folks who can provide them good homes, should they ever become homeless :(

You need a swear pot. Every time Joey swears you put a button in the pot. For every five or ten buttons your sons have to buy him a new toy, or take you to dinner.:th_wink:

That's exactly what I have told them. They didn't do it often, but often enough that Joey was able to associate certain sounds/words with particular stimuli, ie) heightened excitement in the room. If I move cages around to clean or if Willy goes on a little rant, that can set him off although his tolerance level has increased lately. Now that we have moved to another house, he is in a different place in relation to the other birds and even that change has settled him somewhat plus getting older. I am hoping that by next summer, most of the nasty stuff will be extinguished. He does have a wonderful vocabulary except for these three or four phrases/words. His ability to put random words together to make phrases that are in context is amazing and most of the time endearing.

That's a good idea...lol. They aren't around as much anymore so it's becoming easier to redirect him. I just tell Joey he's a stinker and he will start repeating that and forget the swear words for the time being. As well, the novelty has worn off so when my sons are around, they aren't as interested in getting him going.

Thanks! I HATE to cook but love to bake. I think it is a sentimental thing for me. My grandmother and I spent many weekends baking when I was a child. I never really liked cutout cookies much until I gave them another try this fall. It has been a learning experience, thankfully my family likes eating my practice. :)

I don't like to cook very much either. My mother wasn't much of a baker, but made the best apple pie. Other than that my father was an engineer, my oldest brother is an architect/builder and my other older brother is a mechanic. I grew up around tools. I could build a shed, but slice my finger peeling a potato.

Thanks Mare. I was making sugar, but they were rising more than I liked for the shapes. I switched to a lemon shortbread type recipe. The kids actually like it better. I made a sugar cookie recipe for some of the pumpkin shapes and although friends that dropped by liked them uniced, the kids wanted the lemon cookies. :)

I know these are for Thanksgiving, but I am sure your Christmas cookies would turn out just as beautiful. You could box them and give them as gifts.
Just had to add, was showing my daughter your cookies, she loved them. I then get the reminder story "Mom remember the last time you made Christmas cookies, they were so hard we ended up painting them and hanging them on the tree"

Thanks! I will post if Jef puts it on the computer. She was the Saturday night lead and we had a big group come. Which was awesome for her. Some close friends came and they have a 3 year old son that Ash is extremely close with. He kept yelling Look, it's Ashie!! Hi Ashie!! So cute. We weren't sure how he would handle seeing her in that environment but he was so excited, which totally made Ashies night.
The Seussical cookies took FOREVER! They sold out every night so I was happy that they helped bring in some money for the group. But I won't make them again. Lol

She sounds wonderful and self-assured for someone her age.
You could start a business with your cookies Kendra!

Jef uploaded the play. Here is a clip of Ash singing Alone in the Universe with the actor that played Horton (who is unbelievably talented). Her mic wasn't working which is why she isn't really audible during the duet and the lighting was not great. But I think she did great!
