Ashley and Jef planned a last minute trip to Washington DC for us. It is Teachers Convention here so the kids have off. Everyone is excited, except me. For some reason this trip I feel horribly guilty about leaving my crazies. As I type this, I just feel more horrible the further the car takes me from home.
I explained that we would be away for a couple days to Rosie and told her my Mom was coming. She got very excited and said beep beep, which my mom taught her. So I believe she understood some of it and wasn't too upset. I always have a bit of guilt but not like this. We bumped into our nieces fiance in Maryland at a rest stop. He is a state trouper - he was picking up lunch and it was so random but nice. Hopefully it is a sign that the next couple days will be full of pleasant surprises. If I could only shake this Mommy guilt.

Oh Kendra, I can empathize with you. I can't even go and get groceries without feeling guilty....I always bring all the animals home a treat, though I am not sure that this isn't a conspiracy.:th_biggrin:
Can you skype or something so you see her and she sees you?

That'd be a good idea! I'm just not sure my mom could pull it off. But maybe next trip I will set it up for my diva. :)
Aww..I know it's hard :(. Feel good that your mom and Rosie get along well and try to have a good trip! Be safe!
I'm like Helena. I can't leave for as much as an hour without feeling guilt and worry. But I'm sure you'll make it up to poor Rosie once you return, Kendra. And Mare is right... it's great that Rosie and your mom have a wonderful relationship and that your mom is able to babysit her when you're away :D

Yes, I am very lucky that I have my mom. For many reasons, and her special relationship with Rosie is one of them. :)
So there were protesters last night. When we went to the Whitehouse they were in front. Not too much of a big deal. But last night we were woken up several times by chanting and police sirens. We are in between the Whitehouse and Trump's Hotel. So I think they were marching back and forth until fairly late. :)
Ash and Jef have kept us fairly busy - lots of walking/sightseeing, the holocaust museum and monuments planned later followed by dinner with our nephew who lives here and is a politician in the making. So hopefully I'll be too busy/exhausted to feel as guilty as I did yesterday. This trip is killing me, I am a relax vacation kind of girl. City vacations are anything but relaxing!!

I think we're actually the hottest Trump protest spot in the country at the moment. Two days ago there were an estimated 2,000 people marching down Interstate 5 :th_eek:

I saw that on the news. It looked like it was a riot, lots of damage. It's so hard because people are so emotional right now. I'm just happy that nothing like that happened here yet.
What I did find interesting is High Schools here let kids out early to protest. I was wondering why there were so many kids in the protesting fray...

What I did find interesting is High Schools here let kids out early to protest. I was wondering why there were so many kids in the protesting fray...I'm not sure, unless it's the age-old element that many kids are continually looking for a cause with which to join. We just had a problem at a local high school here in which several students were suspended for setting up Trump banners and American flags in the parking lot, then hurling disparaging slurs and remarks at Hispanic students. They were making cruel statements to the Hispanic kids, such as: ""Pack your bags, you're leaving tomorrow" and "Tell your family good-bye" :(. Rosie will probably be in a huff when you get back. The amount of huff will depend on how well she managed to manipulate your mom into spoiling her.
Casper has got used to staying with our friends and last time all I got was a Glaswegian handshake* before he was back to normal.
*Glaswegian handshake = headbutt (a typical friendly greeting from a Glasgow person when you spill your drink on him in a bar), in Casper's case a beakbutt on your cheek when he is standing on your shoulder

Casper is such a funny character! I guess he had to show you he was annoyed you left him behind. :)
She was very happy to see us. Said hi over and over for about 3 LONG minutes. Lots of cuddles. It was funny she would cuddle, then give me a hard pinch and look surprised herself when she did it. I guess she was happy but still mad, so basically a torn toddler.

Kendra, I feel the same way when I leave Nike but luckily we do a lot of camping and I just bring her with me. All my kids and grandkids live within 7 minutes uf us so on the rare occasion that we cant bring her I know that she is in good hands.
The Pak-O-Bird makes bringing her along pretty easy...now she's a small bird so I would think that Rosie would be a bit more trouble. Kinda like taking along my rat terrier as opposed to a big lab...he's easy cuz he's small.

I have loved your pics of Nike camping with you. It looks like you all have so much fun!!
I had thought about getting a Pak-O-Bird for Rosie in the past. The price for her size and then the stroller makes it really pricey. If she liked being outside, I would probably have gone for it. But since she doesn't like going out, it just isn't worth it.
Lol, about your dog. Smaller is easier to manage in a lot of ways. We have 2 small dogs, yorkie bichon mixes. The boy doesn't realize he is only 15 pounds and regularly goes after dogs that could eat him as a light snack. What a pain in the butt. So in one of our guys case, he is a pain regardless of his size. Lol
Kendra, I'm so happy you made it home, safe and sound! :). The protests are expected and needed. Our young nation needs to speak out!
