He lived with her in the Chicago, IL area where she and her husband were Cubs fans. That of course was until her death 4.5 years ago. Rooting the Cubs on seems to have been ingrained into his personality... you can probably imagine how happy he is now that they've finally won the World Series :D

I didn't realize Terry lived in Chicago. Whereabouts was she at? That would explain how Salsa got to be a fan. Did he watch the game with you or did it go past his bed time? I had some of it on but when it had the rain delay, that was the end for me and found out the results when I woke up this am. I'm not a sports fan but it was nice the Cubs won and not have to say 'wait until next year'. That next year finally came for them. I hope the Indians can say the same next year and win as they had not won a Series for many years also.

I'm actually not a huge sports fan either... but Sals has enough enthusiasm for both of us. I have to say, though, that it's quite something for the Cubs to finally win the series after their 108-year slump. I'm happy for them, and naturally Salsa is thrilled! Not sure that he understands the whole 108-year delay, though ;)

That is a Northwest suburb of Chicago.

I would not put it past Salsa that he would understand the game, we all know and have lived with them to know better. I have come to realize that Donovan is actually watching the tv at times too but I would think Salsa watching the game would be more exciting, what with all the excitement, especially last night.

I have come to realize that Donovan is actually watching the tv at times too but I would think Salsa watching the game would be more exciting, what with all the excitement, especially last night.Salsa has surprised me countless times with words and phrases that were appropriate for the given situations in which he used them... and they have been words and phrases that Terrie never mentioned he even knew. I'm very sure she would have told me if she had known that he knew them. Moreover, her husband, Rich, has said that as far as he knows, Salsa had never uttered those particular words and phrases and that he didn't learn them when living with them in Mt. Prospect. So where did they come from? Terrie acquired Salsa in 2008 when he was very young and still being syringe-fed. If neither Terrie nor Rich had anything to do with Salsa learning what those words and phrases mean and when to say them, it follows that Salsa somehow picked them up, as well as their meanings, by himself. And that's for the simple fact that Sals never lived with anyone else. I won't list all of his words/phrases I'm speaking of... but I'll give you one example. In the video clip "Conversation about an Apple" I clearly express to Salsa that I find his behavior amusing, kind of poking some fun at him. He comes out in an obviously offended tone of voice with a very clear, "why did you do that?" He actually responded verbally and tonally as if his feelings were hurt. I believe I've only heard him say that particular question phrase twice since he's been with me. All I can say is that there seems to be a lot more going on in his mind than one would think.

BTW, I know where Terrie got Salsa. She purchased him at a Bird Mart in Rolling Hills, IL in 2008. However, I'm unsure who his breeder was. I do have the papers from his first vet checkup with Terrie, though. It was at Niles Animal Hospital in Niles, IL. So there's about all I know of this clever, lovable red character's origin.
