That's a whole lot of fruit. Are ekkies supposed to eat a lot of fruit? I used to give more kinds of fruit than I do now. I was told I was giving too much{too much sugar, not good for them} and to go with more veggies than fruit. Now the softbills are opposite, they are all fruit. That's why I tend to give so much to the parrots, since I have it out on the counter every day cutting it up. Now I give less. It looks lovely though.

no not much of a mess and what mess they do make just hits the bottom of cage and cleaned up at end of day,as for eating it i often make up the same for me, less the khale.

As for to much fruit they never finish what you see in the pic and there only a little of every thing, they get all there veggies in the morning, ill post a breakfast pic tomorrow. there dinner is normally what i have for dinner, now i must say they have a vet check and bloods every 6 months to a year at most (thats bloods ) every 6 months they have vet check and to this day have always been clear bill of health and the older ones are 13 year old

Can't get mine to eat much fruit :( she likes green apple, and that's about it. I keep trying all the berries no luck. I'm stubborn though, someday. LOL

Ekkies are 'technically' fruigivores (fruit eaters), but they're also omnivores which means they can eat a bit of everything. In the wild they eat fruit, nuts & fruit seeds. In captivity our 'human' fruit is very different nutritionally than it is in the wild. Ekkies in captivity do really well on veg, sprout, greens, rich red & orange veg & herb diets. These foods have the same nutritional values that their wild fruits have.

You also need to take into consideration the difference between them in the wild & in captivity. In the wild they are on the move constantly & use up a LOT of energy. In captivity they use barely any at all but we give them foods high in sugars & energy (fruit). They have no means to burn this off.

Hormones can also play a big role when being given high sugar foods like fruit.

Eclectus are supposed to have a ton of fruit and I've been told passion fruit is the most similar to there wild fruits they eat and star fruit, but I have not found mine like these options to much:(. Eclectus need a more focused fresh diet then any other parrotdise kept at this current moment I believe, the pellets and seed mixes are not good for them at all... Colt I love your mix and it is close to what my ekkies get but you add much more to the mix it seems:p, as mine have chosen not to like some of what you have added sadly.

I'd also like to add in the wild eclectus eat bugs regularly from wha I have researched, any opinions varying on this?
