Parrots beaks go through a regular flaking process. I am assuming you are talking about the lines on the beak that look like cracks?

Shedding will happen all the time while molting only happens once or twice a year.

I hope your foot and ankle are better...I have had a horse step on my foot before....no fun.
Glad to see you're back. We like to hear your Lucky stories.

Sorry to hear about your foot Jen :th_eek:.

Lucky looks like he may need something like a mineral block to have hanging in his cage to use to wipe his beak on to help keep it in shape. Lady uses hers everyday but she also like to swipe her beak on her pumice perch. It is like a perch with sand on it, but not all the way around. It has two smooth sides so it doesn't irritate her feet when she is standing on it. They're easy to find.

Some birds talk and some don't. Repetition is the key....keep repeating short phrases or words. Let him watch your mouth as you form the words. I have a low-pitched tone to my voice, but I speak to my birds with a high, sharp tone as they seem to be able to mimic it more easily. It's fun hearing them trying to mimic the words or sounds they hear.

I do alot of repetition just like you said i do try short words and i try saying them super slow so he can see the way my toung works in my mouth because from what i see it looks like hes trying to mimic the motions and the way my toung works in my mouth. I also try to talk to him in a bird like voice and in a bit of a higer pitch than usual.... i think its fun just all the weird noises he makes lol hes a pretty chatty guy now just gotta see if i can teach him proper words I believe I read somewhere that macaws can learn up to around 50 human words not sure how accurate that is

As others have said, it looks like normal flaking. His beak looks a bit long if anything. When you bring him for his vet visit, the vet may shorten it a bit for you.

I see he has some pin feathers. Will he let you break them for him? That is one of my daily routines with Rosie. We preen her feathers every morning and then right before bed. It is a great bonding activity, if he is comfortable with you doing it. :)

Some birds are chatty and some aren't. Rosie doesn't talk a whole lot. She tends to be more interested in getting the pitch of my voice more so than the actual words. Which is fine with me. The words she does speak, she uses to make her needs known. Needs which she expects to be met immediately!

I hope you are feeling better soon!

Love reading all about Lucky, he sounds like an awesome guy!
