What have you given up or changed in your life since acquiring your parrot(s)?

I don't see my family as much, I travel less. I have had to give up on having order in the bird rooms....I just sweep one area and have to go back and sweep again...sigh. But my life is so much richer with my birds:th_smile:

That's a hard question. I have had birds for just a little over 40 years. Not sure what my life would have been like if I didn't. I would have to say a vacation.

There are days that I miss the silence...but like you wouldn't change anything regarding the birds.

Have you ever had a vacation? I made my backyard an oasis for me with a pool, hot tub, gardens....etc., so I could have a staycation....it was more work to keep all that up...lol. So I moved:th_biggrin:

I can't remember. Jack and Maynard have been with me for nearly 35 years... I must have given up a lot though considering that I was in my 20s then ;)

Oh my, the list is long... My hearing, quiet, the ability to do household chores when I want to, being able to shower alone, hole free clothing, furniture & bedding, eating dinner at the table with my family unless Rosie is upstairs and out of sight, being able to do anything alone without my boss reprimanding me loudly, and oh yeah, my sanity. ;)

The list is long, but the love I get back is immeasurable. She may be kooky and drive me kooky, but I love my red boss!

I think there are a lot of little things that you don't notice because they happen so regularly. I am up every day at no later than 5 am. I am so used to it, I don't even need an alarm clock.

Kendra, I had to stop letting any birds out when I am eating. They will either try and take the food out of my mouth, fight me for a bite or try and steal it from my plate. I would not want to fight a macaw for my food....I would be stepping away from the plate...lol.

Tony, 35 years is a long time, no wonder you can't remember! Heck, I can barely remember what I was doing in my 20's, let alone miss it.

You know what's funny, I just had a "fight" over food with Rosie for the first time this week. I was eating a cookie and Rosie strolled over and took a bite for herself. Which she liked and came back for more. After that I put the last bite in my mouth. The little devil jumped at my face and roughly hit my mouth with her beak, which completely startled me. She then tried to pry my mouth open with her beak. Guess she really liked the cookie. That was a first.

Coming in from work and having to go right to see Lady as opposed to sitting down and having a coffee or iced tea with hubby. Having dinner with Lady after having dinner with hubby, sharing everything I'm eating or eat where she can't see or hear me. Being excited about bringing blocks of wood, cotton rope and colorful soft plastic toys home. Laughing out loud and then hearing Lady laughing.
