Guess who's home! I want to introduce Shaggy :). So far, so good..she took the hour drive home well, seems to be a mellow bird, not aggressive so far. I've not held or loved on her yet, looking forward to that moment, though! She acts a bit nervous, dancing and bouncing, when I get close but I have a good feeling about her..I hope we become great friends!

Wonderful :D. She's beautiful! It appears that she has derived some enjoyment from the egg carton you've given her. I wonder what Amigo's reaction might have been to her presence??

Sort of a trial, Dave. The previous owner and I have some what bonded, she cried when I came to get Shaggy and hugged me tight when we left. It kind of broke my heart to see her this way but understand..I could never give up my one I was in bondage with :). In all seriousness, she seemed to love this bird and the bird loved her..how does someone give that up..?

I think there is more to this story than I know..maybe the folks were just that in need of money..I don't know. I'm sympathetic and called her later tonight to let her know I will stay in touch with her on Shaggy's developments. I asked her, as I was leaving, if she would be into boarding Shaggy when I have to be out of town, she was thankful that I asked. Poor lady, I feel like she would not have let this bird go if she had a choice :(

Ok..that's all for now..

Yes, she is beautiful, Tony! She went directly to the egg carton :). My friend, Carol, who gave me Amigo in the first place, is visiting and went with me to pick up Shaggy..we went kind of "full circle"..I was with Carol when she picked Amigo out of a pet store.

As far as what Amigo's reaction may have been..I wish I could know..

We have Shaggy's cage set up in a different room, next to the bird's room where Sassy resides. Shaggy has not done any loud screaming..not yet, anyways :). I wasn't sure if the Sass even knew Shaggy was here,,not until this morning when Tim took her from her cage and walked into Shaggy's room. I could here Sassy scream from downstairs!..it didn't phase Shaggy. I had to remind Tim that Shaggy is in quarantine for awhile.

Thank you, Savannah :)

I'm able to open the cage door and give Shaggy scritches, she's not giving me any bad vibes and has even offered her foot to step up. I rubbed her feet and she seems ok. I think tomorrow I will get her out of her cage and see how she does.

She hasn't touched her fresh foods bowl. The last owner said she fed her Katee brand fruit colored pellets, seed and fruits and veggies. So far, she will only eat seed.

I'm sure you'll get her diet improved. She sounds to be a calm and sweet bird :)

Was Shaggy affectionate with her last owner? Sounds like she is a doll.

How funny about Sassy! I was wondering if she was going to be mad. Another big white bird, this time a girl and her name starts with an S too. What the heck!?!? Lol.

It makes me so happy to see you moving from tragedy to considering adding Shaggy to your life.Your Amigo I'm sure couldn't be prouder of you.And from us...well done.Succeed or fail....you have done what many others just can't.
I'm not this kind of guy....but Big Huggs to you....this is what careing and love is about

I think the cheeky young miss is trying it on, just eating seeds. Given half a chance Casper would do the same. :)

Maybe when she sees you eating some fresh fruit or veggies she'll consider. I can imagine wanting to sit in her room all day with her just to observe and maybe read to her or just sit and have a chat.

Tony, I picked up the Kaytee fruit pellets today, even though I feed the others Zupreem, I just want her to eat so, that's ok..I just want her to eat more than seed for now.

Kendra, Shaggy was affectionate with her last owner, I'm thankful!..and yes,,Sassy is p***ed! Not because of any name associations but just BECAUSE!!

Dave, thank you! This IS what love and caring is about! Is there any other way?!

Jean-Pierre, I have to totally agree! If given a choice, I would absolutely eat "salt and vinegar" chips with a side of string cheese and yellow banana peppers before I would TOUCH a salad!!

She ran towards me, on her perch, when I brought in a piece of banana..she loves banana :). We are of like mind, I like to sit and observe. I was in Yosemite most of today , with family and friends but tomorrow I will be home all day by myself and plan to do exactly that..sit and observe and...open Shaggy's cage door..

It went wonderfully! She is SUCH a cockatoo! So much like Amigo that I would guess her to be a male but lots that is different also. She's not AS intense as Amigo was around the men in my life but she is intense, very aware. I don't know if it's the deepness/tone of their voice..or what..?. I know we are still in the honeymoon period but I have a good feeling that she will be more accepting of men than Amigo was.

We are becoming fast friends! :)

I'm so happy to read this. Hopefully she won't be terrorizing the meter readers at your house. Although it does make for great stories.

How do you find her similar to Amigo and what is different? I don't know a whole lot about cockatoo's besides a few cuddling experiences and what I have read. I would love to hear all about it.

how is shaggy doing mare?
is she an umbrella cockatoo?

Mare

Thanks, Kendra! My greatest wish would be to see her terrorize the meter reader guy! :)

She is similar to Amigo in the way she moves/stumbles around a cage, her eyes are almost exactly like his, black. I've found her very easy to read when I move through her space..she's such a gomer cockatoo, which I love! She is just as loud as Amigo but throws in words like HELLO...WHAT??..I LOVE YOU...Amigo's vocabulary was limited to "Hi There", and I would miss that dearly except he taught it to the Sassy girl!

She seems to enjoy my company, snuggles like Amigo and gives kisses. When I walk around with her on my right arm, I cuddle her with my left and she reaches up to my face and gives me kisses..she's pretty amazing..even her chew fests!

Hi, Dan! Yes, Shaggy IS an umbrella cockatoo! You don't know my history, I had a male U2 that was a free flyer outside. Sadly, I lost him in July and Shaggy is a new member to our flock.

Thank you, Michelle! Shaggy is a her, I wish my photobucket was more cooperative, I'd be posting more pics. A new IPad is on my wish list to Santa :).

She is fitting in real well, Tim is still so traumatized over the bites from Amigo that he's not getting too close to her but she finds him interesting and is not threatening towards him, at all. We've had several people come and go through the house while she is out with us and she's good with it, SOOO...life is good!

So glad to hear this Mare! I have so many men in my life....husband, sons...birds I think I have conditioned myself to everyone being a him. I am so happy for you that you and Shaggy have bonded, she sounds like a wonderful addition to your flock! Congratulations
