So as most of you know we are breeders as well as educators and take in the occassional rescue.Oh and pets.We are essentually serious home hobbyists with a good amount of knowledge and companion Birds.Heres the deal.A local petstore owner and friend of mine had mentioned in passing that he will be the reluctant recipient of two bonded scartet macaws .They have been together about 20 years. His store is such that they would end up in a cage barely big enough for two greys. While the person is surendering these birds is including Two double macaw cages....this is just a small store and cant accommodate even one double macaw cage.I have spoken to the person with the birds and explained who we are and what we do.She seems quite satisfied with all that. The amount of food and space would be neglegable here.Having explained all the above...what would you do?
Oh..just on a side note...I have a viable plan B
We NEVER rehome or sell any rescue/surrender we take in.They live their lives out here
The rescues in our area are primarily operated by people in their late teens and early 20's and the high end birds are generally sold off for beer money.

I think you have answered your own question. You say the space and food required are non-issues so what would hold you back?
The larger question is what is the long term plan for your parrots after you die? Are there plans for them all and by adding to your current flock, does that alter any plans?

Regardless, it's always exciting when you add to the flock. These two would have the opportunity to be part of a flock that has other macaws....sounds like a win win opportunity.

I think it's great you love so many of our feathered friends I may not be much help lol as I try and save all the animals I can as long as I know I can provide for them and I'm also a beliver in not selling or re homing any anipals.. Good luck in this venture I do know if these birds end up with you they will for sure be loved and well taken care of I can't wait to hear what happens keep us posted 👏👍💞

Yup..I know the answer....
We do have plans inplace for our flock once we move on
Sometimes I wish opportunity would stop knocking. This pair is currently in the care or two seniors that are beginning to struggle with looking after them. They are in no huge hurry, which is good. Will let ya know what we end up doing

Don't ask the macaws what they think... what kid given the choice between living in a candy store and living with a loving family would not choose the former. :)

Wow how wonderful for these two bonded macs that opportunity found your door to knock on. So they have been together for 20 years...that too is awesome. I'm looking forward to hearing all about them when the time comes and they move in with you and your wife. It's totally awesome that you will be opening your hearts to yet another pair of birds that need what so many of us don't have the means to give. :toyou: Thanks Dave for all you and your wife do to support the education and well being of the companions we all so dearly love.

Yes indeed...this is an older couple in a small community. They have found it tasking to take proper care of them..I imagine the volume would be getting to them as well.Im fully on board...my wife and full time caretaker of the feathered ones..not so much.Im going to do the wait and see...if they get ahold of me then we will move in that direction. They aren't in a rush...I don't want to be the one to separate them from their birds until they are ready.
