Interesting behaviour. Nike used to always want to come out of her cage from first thing in the morning to any time we walked up to her. She was also displaying significant hormonal behavior where not only would she be "wild", but she was constantly humping. Then about 2 months ago that all stopped, she was very sweet when out but getting her out of her cage was a chore and I could usually only coax her out once a day.

I had noticed that she had grown very fond of her little stainless steel pots and pans toy, constantly nestled into it and regurgitating for it. Also, in order to give her more outside time I would put her back on top of her cage and she would immediately go in and cuddle up with her pots and pans.

A week ago I removed the toy and almost instantly her behavior changed. She began coming to the front door and waiting for us and would step up out of her cage anytime we opened the door.

She's back to wanting to be with us and will sit on top of her cage for hours. She is also back to humping me but her personality has remained sweet

She's back to being the bird that she was albeit humping a lot. We try not to cuddle her and only scratch her head but that still seems to bring on the behaviour.

Aw...poor thing. I have similar issues with my male Ekkie. But like you, I just removed and rearranged things and the regurgitating has stopped.
Better for her not to be so enamoured with her pots and pans....I believe the constant humping, regurgitating, hormonal behaviour can be detrimental to them if allowed to go on past what would be considered breeding season.
I bet it feels great to have your little friend back again.

Oh boy can I relate to this. Lady regurgitates on practically every block of wood, knotted piece of sisal rope or cotton knotted rope I hang in her cage. For us, the only way I can somewhat control it is to shorten the length of the toy and not allow it to hang to long. When she is on top of her playpen she will also "feed" the toys that hang from her perch :th_shakehead:. I am always looking for ways and ideas to keep her toys interesting but not to interesting.

There was a definite "season" with Amigo. Years ago, I gave him a hand towel that I set on top of his out door cage and when he was in the mood..he would hump it and that was fine with me,,much better than my head! :). Then, he would go into nesting mode, that lasted for a few weeks, then it was over. He never regurgitated, though..?..

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with them carrying out their natural instincts but like Helena says, as long as it doesn't go beyond their natural breeding season cycle
