View Full Version : Cleaning cages..
I guess I'm still bereaving, I just had another good cry while cleaning out Amigo's cage on the back deck, taking down perches, scrubbing the bars, preparing it for the new cockatiel babies. Who knew it would be so hard saying good-by to a beloved friend..?..I felt like if he were here, he would be supervising the whole deal, he was always very concerned when anybody messed with his stuff. I miss you dearly, my old friend.
Don't mind me..I'm just letting it go, thanks for being here.
I've not touched his indoor cage, except to clean it. My friend Carol, who originally gave me Amigo, will be up for a visit in a couple of weeks and she wants to help take it down. I can just see us BOTH being cry babies!..I must warn her :)
I have no trouble understanding your emotions, Mare. And that's because I understand how much you loved Amigo. I've become all teared up myself just reading your post :'(. The heart never forgets! :heart_broken:
Love is a strong emotion and a hurt your learning to deal with will take much time. You have that cry, as much as you want!! A forever love is forever missed and emotions will always run deep.
Oh my gosh..I'm a mess right now. Love me some cockatoo..

Poor Mare, it was so sudden that it gave you no time to prepare mentally, unlike a being who is old or unwell. It will take a while to get back on balance but that is quite normal. You are quite at liberty to punch the **** out of anyone who dares to say "but it was only a bird".

Big hugs your way Mare! He was very special, it's going to take some time to get through this. Hang in there!

Mare, whatever it takes, ride it out :th_sadhug:. we are only their guardians, what we love, is not ours to keep .

Amigo had the best home with you, and you were the best mom he could ask for. No shame in crying over this, I really do feel your pain as well, even though I only knew him virtually. Like you were talking about, there are many other cockatoos out there that need some loving. They will not replace him, but they could be there to cuddle or sing when you need it. The baby cockatiels are also very cute, and I am so glad this batch made it through the hardships of the first few weeks... they have a full life ahead of them with you!
Thanks, guys..today's another day and I'm moving forward. I've just ordered some cockatiel size rope perches and a rope swing to set up the little ones new cage, I hope Amigo would approve. This cage was his home base, where he would fly to when he wanted in, where he would come if there were a hawk in the territory, where he would just come to hang in the shade, get a drink of water and munchies. He's also tried to hatch a seed cup AND a sea shell on top of this cage! Lots of memories, for sure, come with this cage
