View Full Version : The summer heat is on!!!
Man it's 96F in my neck of the woods but it feels like 101. Trying to be a tough girl and sweat it out. I don't want to turn the air till it's time to sleep but boy I'm starting to melt!!!
The humidity is 37% and Lady seems not to mind at all. She hasn't even dipped in her water bowl not once today. Usually when I run the vacuum she is all into her water bowl. I ran it twice so far today and nothing. Don't know why she thinks when I run it that she needs to take a bowl bath but that is what she always does even in the winter.
Oh well, hope you are all keeping hydrated and are having a great Saturday .

I read somewhere that the birds associate the noise of the vacuum cleaner with a rain storm. My birds do the same....if I want them to bath, I just run the vacuum cleaner....lol.
Well it seems true for us that's for sure!

It's 109 degrees here today and will be for the rest of the week, we have a wild fire about 10 miles away in the foothills behind us, ash is everywhere, with the drought this could sweep down closer to us. On the alert to evacuate.

It's in the 90's here in VT which is really warm. We've had a lot more 90's days then usual up here! Us northerners don't like that really hot heat so much!
Suzanne, I hope the fire stays away and you are safe. Please keep us posted!
Goodness Suzanne be careful and prepared. I hope you all remain safe. It must be very scary!

Wow Suzanne, please keep us posted. We had wildfires here last year...even 5 hours away we had smoke. I can't imagine the amount of the ash.

When I got in the car yesterday after work it said it was 104. I was on my way home last night from my mother in laws and still at 10 p.m. it said it was 83. We have had 100% humidity so we have been miserable. I have to work again today ( I am working 7 days straight and today is my 4th out of 7) but thankfully my office is not and air conditioned!
Stay cool everyone.

I hope the wildfires are safely put out soon and that you all do not have to evacuate. I will thinking positive thoughts for you!

Girl I hear ya! I love being able to drive as opposed to taking public transportation. My driverside window broke and I can't roll it down, getting into the car even after opening all the windows still is super heated. This is the time I think about upgrading my ride and getting air, but it just isn't in the cards right now.
Be careful on your ride home and if possible keep your window shade up and leave a small space open for circulation, even tho it's still hot air.
Hot here in Cali, Suzanne is right! We have swamp box cooling and there is a secret to living this way. You've got to open the windows at night, the temp will usually cool around 30 degrees at night, the cooler air will infiltrate your house. Close up the windows before the temp starts to rise and then, turn on the cooler.

We have thick brick walls at the bottom of our house and it stays quite pleasantly cool on the ground floor, but it gets progressively warmer as you go upstairs.
We keep the bedroom curtains closed in hot weather which makes the room cooler.
A heatwave here is 28 degrees.

Humidity also has an effect on how the weather feels, it is somehow much easier to bear a dry heat like Sacramento 19% today. When it gets hot here it is usually very humid, sometimes 80% or more which is a bit like trying to walk through treacle.
Today we have 24 degrees and 67% humidity, grey skies with showers. Margaret is bemoaning the fact that she washed her cars yesterday and they will be filthy again.

Yes, have to agree about the humidity playing a factor in how hot it feels. We moved to an area with a dry heat. It has been unseasonably warm here...temps up to 29-30 c , but it's bearable because of low humidity. We are moving back to where we came from and I am not looking forward to the humidity there. You just have to be sitting and you sweat.
I had to look up swamp box cooling. Too bad it doesn't work in areas of high humidity.
Anyway, for those of you suffering in the high temps, I hope the weather breaks for you soon. Nothing more debilitating than day after day of excessive heat.
Yes, another hot one today. We are now receiving some cooling rain but still very humid. Time to turn on the air to get a good nights rest.
Keep cool everyone~
It's September and the heat is still stifling today! I am very grateful for a breeze. The humidity is at 47%, but it feels like the sun is extra hot beating on the skin. Thank Heaven for trees and shade. I wanted to wash the car windows today but I spent my first day back on the internet trying to do some catch up and slept late into the morning. No way is it worth going out to do what I had wanted till maybe early evening.
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their day~

Yikes...is that 32 degrees Celsius? I would never have thought it would have gotten that high at this time of year where you are.
I didn't think so either, especially with all the tropical storms in the atlantic. I thought we would get some cool air and rain. Maybe it's on it's way as they say the storm is slow moving...
Quite a pleasant day today. Looks like Autumn just might be around the corner! Time to get out the rakes and put away the tanning chairs soon
