I know..RIGHT?!..super scary thought in its self! My baby cockatiels died at around eight days old. I'm wondering if, because these littles do visit Amigo's cage when he's outside, could they have brought some disease to their babies..through Amigo? I normally close his cage door when I take him out but there have been a few instances when they've gotten in his cage. What are your thoughts?

Apparently, when the babies are born, they have no immune system. They are susceptible to bacteria and it might be possible the chicks could have died from something the parents brought in. Nest boxes are supposed to be cleaned daily and even handling the chicks can introduce bacteria.

This is why I can't have breeding pairs. My Diamond Doves had me frazzled. I was checking the nest, the chicks, trying to ensure they had enough calcium. So much can go wrong. Don't beat yourself up too much Mare, sometimes crap just happens.

Thank you, Helena. I try not to beat myself up about this and you're right, checking and stressing about what's going on with the eggs/babes, isn't good. I do still wonder why my babies died :(
