View Full Version : Ouch, ooh, darn it hurts!
What a time to see a doctor, the weekend of a holiday :'(. I think I might of fractured my toe or toes. Darn it hurts, is swollen and black and blue on the actual foot. Ugh! Don't know if the doctor office is open tomorrow, and of course I'm scheduled to work! This happened yesterday. I was having some difficulties with my right knee so I was already walking gingerly but some how trying to get between the wooden bureau and the bed to take my clean laundry to iron I hit the bureau. Who knew I would of caused myself so much pain. I dropped the clothes basket and put my face down on the bed till the initial pain stopped. Man it hurts. I can still put on my shoes but walking is not a joy. I've even managed to run a short errand this morning to see how it would be to drive tomorrow. Of course it's my right foot, so I have to use it to drive. I did okay and not too much pain but man I'm so mad at myself for having this happen. I don't like going to the doctors one bit. Been there so many time for other issues that I just don't like to go anymore if at all possible. Maybe I'll deal with this on my own, maybe I'll give in :numbness:.
Anyone break or fracture a toe or other part and not go to the doctors? How did it work out for you?
Hummm, maybe I should of posted this in the #gripe ([Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]) section...

Oh Alice. I feel your pain. I am pretty sure that I broke my baby toe a couple of years ago and to compound things, when I went grocery shopping, I picked up a box of canned pop that wasn't sealed and the cans tumbled out and hit said toe. Now, I am known to have a potty mouth around events like this and it took all I had to turn around and hobble out of the store without saying a word.
I never did get it looked at because I had heard the docs can't do anything unless it's pointing in a direction it shouldn't...lol. But it is still swollen a bit. Alice, it can't hurt to have it looked at and maybe they can help with the pain.
Good luck with this.

I prescribe a large gin and tonic to be taken as and when required :)
Hope the pain goes away quickly.

Other than what Jean-Pierre has recommended, while your enjoying your G&T you could ice your foot and toes. On and off, 15 minutes on, have a drink, wait an hour ice again, have another drink, so on and so forth that should fix you-up in no time. But one word of caution with this proven remedy are the side effects , you may get inebriated and possibly bang-up more toes. :concern:
The G&T might of done the trick while not at work :th_smile:but I rarely drink any liquor. I have been doing the ice on and off and taking otc pain meds. I have fractured other toes on the same food and with out seeking any doctor attention have ended up with a hammer toe and very little mobility.
I guess I will find out tomorrow if the doctor is available or might have to schedule a day during the week.
Thanks for your replies :). It's always good to know others have had a similar experience and what they did to make it better.
Ooo[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]! Toes are so sensitive, I'm so sorry you're hurt :(. I hit my baby toe on a door and knocked it out of socket, once. It stuck straight out sideways and hurt like HELL!! I moved it back to where it needed to be, Tim told me to tape it to my next toe just to keep it stable to heal. I kept it taped for around two weeks but the whole side of my foot swelled and turned black and blue. Do you think taping them might help to keep them from moving too much?
Hope you feel better, soon :toyou:

Sorry to hear about your toe accident, Alice :(. Toe pain is no fun at all! I've bashed my toes too many times to count. I'm sure they've been fractured several times. Personally, I never go to a doctor for my toe misfortunes. That's just me, though. You may do well to go in and be assessed. I'm convinced that the toe structure on the human foot is of rather poor design. Either that, or it's our furniture design that's lacking :indecisiveness:. Maybe furniture legs/feet should be padded ;). I hope you recover soon!
Thanks guys,
Walking a bit better today and the pain is managed well with otc meds. I guess I won't get to the doctors, it isn't as bad as Mare's experience. It just hurt so bad the first few days I thought I would get it looked at even if it wasn't anything they could do.
The swelling is still there and the deep red and purple bruise make it look worse than it feels, I guess. Like everything else, it'll get better and I sure am a bit more cautious at least for now with looking where I'm going!
Darn toe is still swollen but I don't have any pain :). Guess it's time to do some research again, I thought it would be better by now.

I had smacked my ring finger on my right hand so hard on
concrete floor , doing a concrete stamping project, trying to get the stamp released from the concrete. I thought I was going to pass out from the pain, it took months before I could use that finger normally, I've done similar damage banging my toes, took awhile for the swelling to go down.
Thanks Suzanne, guess I shouldn't worry then .

Inflammation right now is your body's way of protecting it from further trauma and part of the body's healing process, Inflammation can be a good thing sometimes.
