Ever feel like a crazy bird person? I really never did. A crazy person, absolutely. But not a crazy bird person.
With the school year ending and my son graduating 8th grade we have had a lot of things going on at the house, with lots of people that we don't normally have over here.
When kids and parents were here for formal pictures, Rosie was on my shoulder. A woman I have known for years, am friendly with but am not really friends with was here. She looked at me with huge eyes and laughingly said, "Are you like a Bird Lady?"
I was taken aback and said "No, are you kidding me!?!?" I wasn't sure why I was annoyed at the time, but I was. Thinking about it, I think it's because having a parrot does not define me. I am me, and have never been one that likes being put in a category. I'm one of a kind, Damnit! :) But seriously, yes, we have a parrot who runs my life at home. But it doesn't change who I am.
Anyway, we have had kids over non stop this week. So Rosie has been with me in front of kids who haven't been around her before. I have gotten awed looks, incredulous remarks, etc about things that don't even make me blink. Rosie climbs on top of my head while I am talking...everything stops. Look, the bird is on her HEAD!! Kids are eating in the kitchen and I am by the stove. Rosie climbs down, hangs upside down from the bottom of my shirt and slowly flaps her wings...I am so preoccupied I don't even notice. But the teens do...OMG! Do you see that? Does she just climb all over you like that all the time? More incidents like this all week, stuff I don't even notice anymore but looks so odd to everyone else.
So I guess in a way, even though I HATE being pigeon holed, I am a Crazy Bird Person...at home at least. There is so much more to me, but I guess that is part of who I am now. Not because I define myself that way, but bc a crazy red headed girl loves me and I am her person. What can I say, we are who we are.
