View Full Version : Extinct encyclopedias..?
I bought a set of encyclopedias around 25yrs. ago,,thinking my kids would be enhanced by them. Boy, was I wrong!! Damn you, Internet!
I paid over $1000 for them. Maybe, someday, the Antiques Roadshow will say they are worth a whole lot more! :)

Yep, same here but my son has them now because they raise the tone of his bookshelves.
Margaret went to Antiques Roadshow last week, queued for a total of six hours to find out about a doll and a glass vase. A good way of getting to meet new friends (in the queue). By the time she got home she had forgotten most of what she was told, not sure which of the two was made in about 1860. The doll has a German made china head and what appears to be a Danish costume and the vase has an orange inner glass layer with clear glass over the outside of it, painted with a picture of camels, palm trees and the Pyramids. Who would have thought it came from France?

I hear you Mare. We did the same thing. Bought an expensive set of encyclopedias....for our kids and because they were being sold door to door. Good thing about the door to door experience is that now nobody will get past the front door or the first "good day ma'm" on the phone!

We never bought encyclopedias as adults, but I remember having them as a kid. I do say at least once a day, let me check that on Google. I have no idea of what we did before the internet. Well, I do, but it was so much more work!! ;)

Same with the paper dictionary. I'm always checking my spelling with my phone, but I do still on occasion use the one I still have.

I love the Antiques Roadshow! That's so awesome that Margaret got to go, what an experience! When Tim and I watch, we always try to guess what the appraiser will say the item is worth..we are normally off by several thousands of dollars :)

Neither of the items that Margaret took were valuable in monetary term unfortunately :)
