View Full Version : Life's experiences and lessons.
I'm starting this thread on Suzanne's thought that it might be a fun topic and probably could be :). Even bad experiences teach us something, I think even more so than good ones..you will ALWAYS remember that kick by a mule or falling off that horse and just what led up to that moment! That may be more along the lines of life's lessons, though :)
I'll start with..getting my first bird. He ended up being my biggest life experience AND lesson, all in one! He rivals having my first child..
Ok, go folks! Let's hear all about it or just some of it. There is so much in life that impacts us in different ways.
My trip to Peru, South America, last summer with Tim surprised me in such a good way! Not only did the country, people, scenery and food excite me but my time spent with Tim surprised me. After 36 years together, I thought I knew everything about him. I discovered that traveling with him to a new country brought out a whole n'other side. I recommend it! :)

The most touching moment [this past fall]. Our Eleanora Too past away :( We knew something was wrong and took him to Cornell several times . I believe it was his liver . This was Daves "Bird" . The night he was failing Dave made sure he held him all night so he wouldnt have to die alone . I am in awe at the strength that must have taken to do that.
Frick, I'm so sorry Terri, that must have been a rough one :( Hugs to Dave..

You know I have learned some huge life lessons with three marriages behind me and a new male in my life at age 73. It's all so personal though.
Dianne, we have no secrets here! Just kidding :). At 73 you've got to have some words of wisdom to share. I will turn 60 in July and feel like I've already lived three lifetimes!

The most impactful life lessons for me have been about the selfish corruption among humans and the suffering that it imposes. I'm not going to elaborate with examples here. But trust me, there are plenty!

I sympathize with you Terri, I lost my Galah "Kiwi" last fall, she has been my best bud for half of my life 30 years we've been through a lot together. I have trouble letting go. I always think I've failed them some how...
Holy Moley..spit it out Dianne and Tony! That's what this thread is about! I've been thinking lately, about growing really old! Do I want to burden my kids..?..No. I think I'll make a plan to die before that happens.

Here's one, when I was 9 years old...I was Born in Miami Florida, always in the water a pool or swimming in the calm warm gulf stream that runs through the Atlantic.
My family moved to Michigan in the area of Gross Point Farms .Near the shore of Lake Saint Claire, about 7 miles out of Detroit...You can see Windsor Canada from across the lake Hop, Skip, and a Jump across to Canada We/Family used to go across over the bridge all the time.
I joined a swim team at the local park that had Olympic sized pool I won many Blue ribbons for our swim team...My first winter in Michigan was a glorious one.
Snow Angels , Ice Skating, Making Igloos, My Mother made me a beautiful blue velvet Ice Skating outfit I had matching blue Ice-skates, Fur muff! the whole nine yards. I was the Sonja Henie of Gross Point Farms! Oh My!
Well all of the Kids used to go Skating at a rink that was made from banking up the snow and wetting down layers to freeze over . Lake Saint Claire would freeze over, I noticed that people would make holes in the ice and ice fish they would have an ice house to fish in.
So I got this idea that I was going to Ice skate to Canada. I talked my friend into going with me , I'll never forget her name "Sandy Joe Kellick" poor kid listening to me...well so off we go to Canada every thing was going great having so much fun, until we get to the middle of the lake where the Merchant Marine Freighters go through the great lakes and break through the ice...
You guessed it, yours truly falls into the freezing lake where the ice is breaking away as I try to get out! Sandy Joe trying to pull me to the solid ice, I think the thing that saved me from drowning and hypothermia in the freezing current, was that I was a strong swimmer. I think back now about that...and shutter about the potential tragedy. What an idiot! how stupid!!!
You would have been my worst nightmare of a kid! I, too, was a swim team kid..a strong swimmer to this day. God loves us, Suzanne :)

I don't get how Sharing past life experience can be controversial...what's done is done, and besides it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom.:th_omg:

Nothing else I've seen here qualifies as controversial. But what's so bad about discussing controversial things under the category created for them anyway?

I'm just being controversial about the potential controversial topic :giggle: I suppose Mare's statement about her planning her own demise could be considered controversial...And could be a new Thread in Controversial Topics...I find Mare to be " avant-garde" meaning =

OK here is a strange one. Years ago I was talked into going through a past life regression session. I did that and I can tell you being hypnotized is quite a wonderful feeling. Felt like floating on clouds. I found that in my very distant past I have 3 lives and found out the answer to why I have always been fascinated with the country of Africa. In one of those lives I was a princess in Egypt. However, I was mummified due to early death.

Dianne - I tried that a few years ago. I don't think I went to a good hyponotist though. I love that you had a great experience!!

OK HERE GOES ANOTHER STUPID THING I DID...
Well lets see :th_hmmm: where shall I start. Back in the early 70'S gosh did I have wild fun, this particular time a group of us went up to the Kern River to camp out.
One of the Guys brought along some truck inner tube tires we loaded up in a Volkswagen Bus. Picture this "The Magic Bus" for any of you Baby Boomer's Amongst us...The Kern River has in certain area's of the tributary some formidable white water rapids. This guy, the one who brought the tires, I forgot his name some kind of hippie type name "Like Blaze or Stoney " I don't know...anyway, he says lets go Whitewater rafting down the river!!
Were all like" ya man cool" outta sight, groovy man lets do it! So he proceeds to tie the inner tube tires together with rope, we climb inside and sit in these tied up tires with our feet dangling out ,our Rear Ends getting soaking wet in the cold water .
We start out drifting down in peaceful calm currents. As we proceed current starts picking up speed now we're starting to go about 15miles/20miles an hour, now faster and faster pretty soon here comes a narrowing in the river, with huge walls of boulders on both sides .
Oh did I Mention Were Not Wearing Any Life Jackets !!! Yep No Life Jackets!!! "You Betcha No Life Jackets" .
We start bouncing and spinning off the walls of the gorged out canyon wall, Getting soaking wet hanging on for dear life. Then we go down a small waterfall to a calm stream and float to the sandy bank of the river.
It was scary and exhilarating at the same time, Really makes you feel alive. It was so much fun, we kept riding that section of the river all day. Life Lesson learnt from that! Lucky we didn't get thrown out of our make shift boat and drown...No Life Jackets , No Crash Helmets. Fearless we were, Now I would say we were really stupid !
Sounds like an amazing adventure, Suzanne! I'm happy you lived to tell about it :). The Kern is a beautiful river. I lived in Bakersfield, for a minute, and use to drive up there with friends to go fishing.
Dianne, that's fascinating that you did the hypnosis. I've never done it but I have no doubt in my mind that most of us have lived many lives! Have you read the book, "Many Lives, Many Masters"? Good read. Sometimes you'll meet a person that you just feel..has an "old soul", they've been around for a looong time. When my daughter, first child, was born..I felt it. Every time I held her in my arms and all through her growing up, there is just something about her, maybe a wisdom.
Tony, I can be controversial and I won't/can't apologize for it. Anytime you feel like you need to, just throw me and my controversy into the CT section, no hard feelings :)

Bentley flew over my 2 story house (and this was with flights clipped) into the middle of the street, thank God he didn't get hit by a car.
I almost had a heart attack.
I ran around the corner afraid of what I might find, there he was standing in the middle of the street.
A woman was coming out of her house to stanch him up! I grabbed him up so fast, the lady say's oh is that your bird!
I replied YESSS HE IS.
Lesson Learned
Just because your bird 's Flight's are clipped doesn't mean they cant fly .
It's a mystery to me too :). They have wings but the wings are clipped..aren't they still going to try and use them?
I'm not an advocate for free flight and I would never tell anyone to free fly their bird..yet, I do. It's not impossible. It takes the RIGHT person with the RIGHT bird...in the RIGHT location with the RIGHT amount of luck on that day :).
I've learned that the trust of an animal is a true treasure. Does that count?
Absolutely, Penny! :). I've trained a few horses and earning their trust was the ONLY way it happened!
