So it's been a hot minute, haven't been around. Lots of big changes, y'all! I'm gonna tell a long story and gush.
Here's the situation: my wife and I just moved to South Carolina as she just finished her doctorate in computer science and had a job lined up here, contracted for three years (student debt free AND a hefty paycheck? Movin' on up!). We've been renting a bedroom in another couple's home for a while, but have to be out in June. No big deal, right?
Nope. Since we only JUST escaped poverty, our credit hasn't recovered. I had a shoddy, good-for-nothing landlord the last four years so my rental history is nothing. Add on pets and the fact that my dear wife is a 6'2" very-visibly-transgender woman and I'm also female... in SC... no one wants my wads of newfound cash.
So during these last six months I've developed quite the rapport with the owner of my local bird specialty shop. She bred my Itachi and Naruto and her shop has also been the home of my darling adopted Amazon girl Bonita for the last several years. As she used to be commanding officer of the entire Naval weapons command station my wife works for, she's taken a special shine to her and is very "mama bear". I'm one of the only people allowed to chill in the nursery while she handfeeds. She got in a huff that my wife and I weren't having a ceremony for our wedding, because how can she invite herself to our wedding if there isn't one???
THE POINT:
We figured, "hey, Bird Lady owns property, maybe she knows someone else who can rent to us!" so we asked her.
She didn't, but after hearing the reason we couldn't get calls/emails back she got MAD. "I can't BELIEVE people won't give you two a chance!!! Well... what if I bought some property and rented it to you?"
Jaws broken on impact with floor.
Had a meeting Saturday. She's officially got her realtor looking. Even more amazing, we asked for a ballpark time wise so we could figure out what accommodations we needed. She thinks for a moment and asks how much stuff we have. Just the one bedroom full. She asks if I can clean, and mentions how she hasn't even unpacked because the shop has her so busy! I tell her I've been paid good money to clean people's homes before. Then she says, "well... I have four bedrooms. And it would help if I could get cleaned up and unpacked. I haven't even unpacked my dishes."
So now we CERTAINLY know I can bring the birds! After such a rough few years I can't even BELIEVE how incredibly fortunate we are and how kind she is.
Her house is next to the shop, I can just mosey over and take care of Bonita and get her even more acclimated to me. Maybe even work on her diet in her familiar environment! And then when the real house is ready we can all be together.
