Prize photo.
She's a trippy little bird. These goffins can be sweet one minute and "totally, LOSE it", the next. I love 'The Sass' with all my heart. Learning to read her is EVERYTHING! Once she starts becoming overly excited while outside her cage...it is time to go back to her cage..!
She is so very different from an Umbrella cockatoo, so different from Amigo, anyways. She's a lot more hyper and when she starts getting "hyper"..look out!!
And..I don't know if it's just her or a goffin's trait..Terri..where are you..?.

Too cute, these cockatoos sure know the way to our hearts. I am sure it is in the archives, but how did you come to be a parent to The Sass?

Pearl has his different moods ,and is having a hard time with it being the hormonal time of year. I just go with his moods . If he wants all my attention then he gets it . Sometimes hes to hyped up for himself and wants to take on the bird room. So I bet it is a Goffin trait :). I find my rehomes want to strongly bond with their "person " the rest of the house they tolerate.
Thanks, Terri :). I wasn't sure..
Michelle, I found Sassy on Craigslist. She happened to live only 20min. drive from me, I went to see her and she was a mess..her cage was way too small, she was badly plucked and home alone most of the day. I know the woman that owned her loved her but just didn't know how to take care of her, she'd had Sassy from a baby and at that time Sassy was seven years old.
She was asking $300 for her. The woman came to my home to see where Sassy would be taken care of before she would let her go. When I went to pick The Sass up, I was told that she is free, to me. The woman was very grateful that she was going to a good home
I was looking for a companion bird that might get along with Amigo,,totally STUPID idea, so..here we are

My white Toos are friends with no one in the bird room . Very independent they are :) Owen my Rb2 can fly and visit birds through cage bars [ they like him]. At least Sassy bonded with your husband though.
The tiels are free in the bird's room. I've tried to let Sassy have some freedom in there but she'll take off after the tiels! Amigo..well,, I won't trust loose with another bird AT ALL! That's nice that Owen is well received by the others :)

Mare, I love The Sass's story. How lucky she was that you found her and what a wonderful life you are providing for her. She looks like she has a very sweet personality (except not with the tiels). Yay that she and you found eachother!
Thanks, Michelle :). Yes, I believe Sassy is definitely in a better place, her looks can be deceiving but we enjoy her feistiness!

Suzanne, a few years ago I played around with the idea of a mate for Amigo, another U2 to free fly with but the more I thought about it, the more I made up my mind that it was a terrible idea! There are so many things that could go wrong, #1 being..what if he didn't like her and tried to chase her off or worse, hurt her badly. #2..what if he decided he LOVED her and hated me? What if he and her set up house in his tree and started hatching out babies..?.. There just seemed to be too many questions that I wasn't sure of an answer for.
Our life with the ones we have keep us busy enough and I think Amigo is fairly content with the way things are, so, I'm letting it be :)

Your right , leave well enough alone.

As much as I would love to see a flock of cockatoos on our property, it just wouldn't work..our home/deck is made of wood and Amigo alone has done some serious damage. If we had a flock of free flyers..we'd be living in a tent within a year!

I love to watch them on YouTube in peoples yards foraging.
