View Full Version : Weeding..
I guess I'm a complainer,,we've had SO much rain that I'm seeing weeds that I've never seen before!! Spring sprang and now we have SUPER weeds! I've been weeding all morning and these super weeds are already dropping seeds!..fricken dang weeds.. :(. Lesson learned,,weed earlier rather than later.

I'm not very good at gardening. That is why we have a 30ft Yew tree in our tiny front garden instead of a yew hedge.

There are a few weeds that birds can eat. Google would let you know.
We have something here called Miner's lettuce, I'm going to go hunt for a pic to share with you all. I've actually made a salad with it and my birds love it!
Jean-Pierre..you crack me up!! :). Amigo got down on the ground, yesterday, and dug around with his beak. I believe these guys like to eat dirt!
Well..crud..the men/boys whacked the yard today with the weed whackers. Here is a pic of a piece of Miner's lettuce.

Big leaf.
So is the miners lettuce good for the birds too? I have to do some research, this is the first I've heard of it.
oh this is something I found about your miners lettuce. Hope I might find some :).

It resembles a water lily leaf, what is that in the center of the leaf, does it grow in the fashion of a. Rosette?
My birds like it, it is a fat, kind of watery leaf. It doesn't grow into a rosette, Suzanne. The little leaves you see in the center, will eventually go to flower and then seed.

Weeding is my least favorite activity, so my 5 year old does it for me, he likes pulling the weeds out of the front flower beds and seeing how far he can throw them....
My husband did raised garden boxes for the vegetable garden and put down a liner so he really does not have to weed.
I enjoy planting, watering and watching....weeding not my favorite.
HAHAHA I agree! I don't favor weeding myself unless I can spend the whole day dealing with it. And if I'm watching the weather and the growth of what's coming up I don't mind then, especially if I'm paying attention in this month when it's still cool enough to do. It's when I'm just passing through the yard to get into the house after work without giving the weeds much thought that they seem to sprout up quick and try to take over every nook and cranny.

Exactly Suzanne, and unfortunately if I let my 5 year decorate we might have paint in every nook and cranny so I have to leave it to the professionals. Our house is white on the inside, I like it because it makes the space look more open, Oh and I am partial to white because of Charlie :p97:
