This made me smile :)

Wyatt leaves for college

Several weeks before I knew Wyatt was leaving, I started to have heavy anxiety over being the new caregiver of Amigo. This bird didn't like me, he tolerated me at best, I could feed and water him but couldn't handle him. I couldn't pick him up without a stick and towel to move him around. I definitely couldn't turn my back on him, while in the same room. He was a scary little invasive life form from another planet, that was living in my home.

Wyatt leaves. He's heading to UCDAVIS for four years. I'm kind of freaking out on not just losing my baby but gaining Amigo! I make a desperate phone call to Amigos original person. Carol is staying in a guest house of an old friend of hers, to reach Carol I have her friends phone number. Carols friend answers the phone but Carol is away for the weekend. I tell Friend what my predicament is, I want Carol to take Amigo back, if not for good then at least just till summer vacation when Wyatt would be home.

Friend PLEADS with me to please not ask Carol this, why not, I ask? Friend's last renter in this guest house had a cockatoo that had eaten the WOOTY out of the inside of this house! Ohhh...?! Then she proceeds to tell me how Carol is away with a friend and is trying to snag him as a husband so please, PLEASE, don't ruin this for her!! OOKaaay??!

After bout a week of Wyatt being gone, Amigo began making overtures of a courting type behavior and I was feeling more confident that he may not want to bite me. That was nice. I think out of desperation for someone to love, he decides that I might be ok.

Thank you for sharing. I think it is good for fid parents to realize that there are going to be ups and downs with our flock, feathered and human!:big_hug:

And look at you two now! I so wish I had toughed it out with Sucre.

We would not have the conures, which I love dearly, but that bird scared me to death! Do you think he accepted you because Wyatt was gone? My husband and I often said that Sucre would have been fine with either of us, just not BOTH of us.

You're welcome, Michelle! :). Yep, ups and downs are part of life!

Kim, don't torture yourself, you did the right thing. These birds are difficult to live with once they take on a human mate. We've been fortunate in that we could allow Amigo freedom. He was impossible for all of us to live with in the home.

Oh, and yes, the ONLY reason he accepted me was because Wyatt was gone :)

Mare, how does Amigo react now when Wyatt comes home? How is he healing from his bought with the fence?

Wyatt, who..? Michelle, Amigo acts like he never had a bond with Wyatt. Don't ask me why,, I have no clue as to why he is like he is. I DO know that he's a one person bird and I would hope that if something happened to me, he would bond up with someone else. It would be nice if he could share his love but he won't :(

He's back to normal except for a few missing feathers, thanks for asking :)

I have no clue as to why he is like he is.Perhaps because he's a "scary little invasive life form from another planet" :th_laughing8:
