So I was just looking at Charlies breeders web page [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] and she says that she has a Mobrella Cockatoo that needs to be re-home. I am not interested in getting it but when I tried to google search mobrella cockatoo to see what one looked like, google kept asking me if I meant Umbrella Cockatoo?

Is a mobrella a hybrid of an umbrella and a moloccan?

If anyone can find a picture of one that would be great, that is why I posted under photos/videos :m2:

Since I am stuck in the car on our LONG trip home, I looked it up.

Here is a video of a baby:

I really am not of fan of breeders messing around with what nature has created as in hybrid birds. Just an opinion.

I'm not a fan of large cockatoo breeders, period. These birds aren't meant for captivity. I've heard of this happening in the wild but to do it ON PURPOSE?! Yuck!

Keep it pure!

We used to raise African cichlids and hybrids were very frowned upon, even in the fish world.

Before you know it, designer birds will be as popular as the designer (mutt) dogs that are selling for astronomical prices. Don't get me wrong, I have the cutest little mutt you could possibly imagine, but don't get me started on Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, etc.

I understand what you mean Dianne, I don't think humans should intervene and play around with nature....that being said though Charlie is a hybrid so I am guilty of owning one.

Here in Aus, breeding hybrid toos (and I think any hybrid of a native species) is very much illegal.

I don't think birds should be bred in captivity period.. but this is just my opinion. I obviously OWN a bird that was born in captivity... but I just think that they belong to the wild and not us humans. Breeding them is only every for money and it's just not right ( in my opinion, I won't hold it against you if you are for it )

The only part of breeding in captivity that I do agree with is that it is keeping deforestation and the destruction of habitats in check where these birds are from. I obviously own a bird that was bred in captivity but I fully agree with you Savannah, a lot of breeders are in it purely for profit and should not be doing so.

If I could I would start a bird rescue, but sadly it is not in the cards for me :'(

Michelle, it sounds like he is a lucky one,,to be yours :). I have just sort of rescues and can't imagine folks wanting to give them away!..?..not till I lived them awhile, anyways..

Don't mind me...this is why I'm not a moderator :)

Thank you Mare. I am a bird nut, I like all animals but I am all about the birds, wild birds, pet birds...it doesn't matter. I would love to have a rescue just for birds, but like I said right now it is not in the cards for me, maybe when my sons are off to college or out on their own....

Charlie has all of us wrapped around his claw, even my 5 year old. The first thing he does when he gets up in the morning is check on Charlie and ask what I made him for breakfast, and then when I pick him up from school the first thing he does when we get home is check on Charlie. Charlie even steps up for him so we are the lucky ones!
