So I love to read, besides being with my family and Charlie, it is my next favorite thing. I just finished a book titled Coal River by Ellen Wiseman. If you like historical fiction (which is my favorite genre) then you will love this book.

So that leads me to thinking, what if we had a PP book club? I do not know the rules or regulations on something like that, could one of the admins or moderators advise?

Anyone else interested?

That's a good idea. Are you suggesting we give reviews on books or actually borrow books from each other through the mail? Since I am running the photo contest I will defer to other mods on the forum. We have a member here who has written a book about a Cockatoo. Its for sale on Amazon. Here is a link to her Rachaelslp [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]

I was thinking more along the lines of we all read a book at the same time and then have a discussion or offer reviews on it.

Thank you for her information.

I think I would love this, because I too enjoy reading.. Maybe we could do it once and see how it goes? Unfortunately I assume we are into much different books because I am still in High school, and most of you are grown adults with children. I enjoy older books as well as newer popular novels!

Michelle perhaps you could make a list of books that sound interesting for all of us and then you could do a poll and see which one is the most likely book.

I like that idea Dianne, can I set up the poll or does someone from admin/moderator have to do it?

Savannah what type of books do you like to read, I can do a genre search and see what we could all read at the same time. Give me some titles and I will figure something out

I used to love to read , currently I just don't have the time to commit, I was into Ann Rice , I'm not much on romance but there was one that I really loved called "To Dance With Kings" it was about life in the court of Versailles, I'm drawn to philosophy, Like the teachings TAO, Shinto, Bhagavad-Gita, Pillars of life, Remember Clan of the Cave Bear and Valley of the horses.

I know what you mean Suzanne, but then I started consciously thinking about how much time I spend looking at the TV, or my phone, or sitting on the computer (PP doesn't count that is learning and observing time lol). And I made my resolution to stop doing all those other things and read more.

I actually have found that if I start my morning off with my cup of coffee, sitting by my oil diffuser and either reading or quitely sitting while clearing my mind (kind of like meditating I guess) then my day goes much smoother and I do not feel as stressed throughout the day.

I suppose it's just switching up our priorities. Since I brought my Esthetic Practice in my residence , my home office is taking a lot of my focus , I love that I'm home, but between getting ready for Clients and taking care of my zoo the day is gone.

As long as we avoid the romance novel section I'm all in. Romantic is fine, just not into the Fabio adorned type of thing. My favorite genres are the sci-fi and fantasy areas, Octavia Butler, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Orson Scott Card, Heinlein etc... although I love a good Taylor Caldwell historical fiction too. I really love to read

But you are right about the computer we sure do tend too get stuck . if I need to really get things done, I wont dare turn on the computer. It also makes me lethargic.

Just whatever reall works for you! I agree that we should get a list of random popular books from lots of different genres and see what we all agree on! I will read anything!

I second the motion to stay away from the Romance department altogther, I mean some historical fiction has romance in it, but nothing like the Fabio standing on the hilltop with his wind blowing in the breeze...(I am going by what the covers seem to display, I have never read one of them so...)

Ok...I will research some trending titles in the themes that have been mentioned.

I definitely understand Suzanne, between the kids, Charlie  working part-time and the stuff that just comes into running a house I definitely feel like there is very little time to read...I try to make time.

I agree with the lethargy. There was a research done about the blue light that is emitted from screens i.e. cell phones, ipads, computers and the light form them has an affect on your energy level and how well you sleep, interesting!

I used to be part of a book club with some friends from uni, but it slowly fizzled out after one of our friends passed away (breast cancer at 21, go figure) and we all finished our degrees and got on with life. We're all still great friends and see each other often, but mutual time for book club meetings is scarce. These days I really only have time for audiobooks, but it's a great way to pass the time when I'm doing monotonous lab work. I'm on a fantasy kick at the moment. I'm powering through a lot of Robin Hobb. I also have some Kurt Vonnegut and Neil Gaiman lined up. Both great authors.

Kylie - I have been in a bit of a reading lull. Ran out of books that interested me. I will have to check those authors out. Thanks!!

Vonnegut isn't fantasy, but the other two are. Robin Hobb is more high fantasy and has a bunch of trilogies set in the same universe. I would recommend some over others, but it's best to read them in order anyway. Neil Gaiman is definitely fantasy, but many of his books are set in our world with a bit of magic. I've read three of his: American Gods, Stardust, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I've loved all three. The first one is a bit of a slog, but it's fascinating and involves a lot of cultural lore from all over the place. The Vonnegut novel I have is Slaughterhouse Five, which I'm told is a sort of WWII satirical sci-fi. Looking forward to getting to it.
