I have a bedroom in our home that I've designated to be "the bird room". We have other cages in the living room area, also but most of their together time is done in the bird room. Amigo and Sassy can be VERY loud and the poor Littles act like their heads might twirl off of their neck with every scream! Chip and Jellybean have full run of the room and I know they love having that freedom.

My question to you guys is..do you think these loud bird's noise is harmful to them? I feel sorry for them when it gets like that!..usually at bed time.

Good question!

The birds at our rescue are usually separated by size, but sometimes we kinda have to just put birds where cages will fit, and it just so happens that we have a pair of budgies and a cockatiel with our larger macaws and cockatoos and such. They don't seem to mind and they honestly just like to scream a long. Birds can handle a lot of noise.. because.. well they MAKE a lot of noise hahaha, but you know this!

I personally think they're fine, but if you could move them to a place where they could still have the run of a room and keep Sassy and Amigo away, that could work to!

Thanks, Savannah :). I wish I could separate the 'tiels but at this point we are pretty committed! The 'toos aren't LOUD even most of the time but when they are..THEY ARE!! I just don't want the little ones to get loss of hearing, brain tumors or plucking issues over this.

That is very thoughtful of you. Have you observed the cockatiels body language during the loudness? Are there any changes from the norm?

Yes, Dianne..with every scream of the cockatoo, the cockatiel's head does a quick twist. I think it must hurt their ears at least, it sure does mine when in the same room.

They're a happy little couple besides that and I think add a lot of enrichment to Sassy and Amigo's lives, they like to get down on the floor and peck around the cages for torn paper and chips of wood. Amigo will get down on the bottom of his cage (ground level) and Chip will walk over and serenade him through the bars, super cute to see!

I think my only real alternative with them would be to move them to the living room but then they would have to be caged, we have too many Indian baskets that would be in danger of being chewed on.

Ha! That's too cute!

I definately think that if you can see obvious signs of distress then it would be ideal to move them, and then give them their out of cage time in another room for whenever you can!

Thanks, Savannah! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Little Jellybean is acting like she might be getting ready to start laying..if so I might have to move them so's not to over stress her.

Jean-Pierre, where do I get my little ones some of those? :)
