So I have been looking into getting a filter for our bird room. There are so many out there for each application. I just wondered what you use and how you like it.

I just use a cheapo from home depot. I say cheap, it was just over $100. But that is inexpensive as far as they go. I really want a good one or two. The most popular higher end ones seem to be the Austin Air & Rabbit Air.

I have a Multi-Tech in the bird area right now. It has the UV light that is supposed to help kill viruses & bacteria. If it does, I don't know. I like this one very well, but it is not large enough for the amount of space it has to cover. I bought it before I began keeping birds again just for dust & dog fur purposes. Since my birds are in the living room & my living room & kitchen area is a large L-shape combination & adding another large bird to the mix, I just ordered the largest Honeywell Hepa Filter one I could afford. It will be in next week & I will see how well it works out.

The one I have now I will set up close to the computer area which is on the opposite end of the bird area. I also have a small Holmes brand one in my bedroom that helps a lot to keep the bird dust from coming in. Especially since my bedroom is located on the opposite side of the wall from the macaw boy's enclosure. That is for about a week or two more, then hubby will have my new bedroom finished & I can move in. :th_yah:

I have gone through several "cheap" filtrations systems that did not work well. Now I have a Rabbitair and believe me you get your monies worth with this system. I have had it now for about 4 years. Has 6 filters and one specifically for birds. You change the filters once per year (they come in one pack). The outer most filter is cleaned about once per month of the bird dust or other particles that get trapped. It is nice and quiet too. Well worth the $500 I spent.

I have a Holmes one. I ordered it from Walmart's website as they had the best price on it. Middle of the road price wise. I think it works well, lol! I do notice the room stays cleaner.

I believe I am gonna ge something similar to what spirit mentioned, I have burnt up so many cheaper ones$100-$200 ones it is just not worth it and I'd clean them daily to... My area the birds are in is just bigger then most air purifiers are set up to clean so I may need to invest in to.

I have several Oreck's running around the house in different rooms, but I've had them for years. Didn't know they were a necessity for bird owners!?! I got them to help with allergies and sinus issues and we've loved them.

How do you like the austins Tony? What is the cost for replacement filters on these pricier models?

How do you like the austins Tony? What is the cost for replacement filters on these pricier models? The Austins utilize huge, dense cylindrical HEPA filters. Each one also has a flexible pre-filter that wraps around its HEPA core element. If periodically cleaned by vacuum, the filters will last for years and years. I think replacement filters are just over $300, but I'm betting they're available from various sources for quite a bit less than that. I like my Austins fairly well. I'm unsure how they compare with some of the other brands, though.
