Interesting, thanks!
Went ahead and bookmarked it for later. I am curious to see what they say and as I skimmed through I saw some nice pics of feathers too, :thanks4sharingthumb

Very interesting!
Being that parrots have another color receptor than we do, I often wonder what the parrots feather color actually look like to other parrots. I have read that they have no problem differentiating between the sexes as we do with those that are sexually monomorphic.

Excellent information, I have just skimmed it but will read it again more thoroughly. When Casper first came to us I was bemused by the fact that some colours, e.g. blue, in his feathers changed to grey when he was wet but others like the yellow did not. From what I can gather this article explains why without actually covering the subject of water affecting the way light is reflected by feathers. It may be there and I didn't see it. :)

Thanks for the link. I always wondered if any feather colors come from food.

I seem to recall that people used to make their canaries orange by feeding them cayenne or something. Has anyone got the facts of this?

The article made e wonder why cockatoos are white, and with Charlie (LSC2) certain feather like his crest are all yellow. He has hints of yellow throughout, but it is striking to see such a beautiful bird with the yellow crest.

Fantastic read! Thank you so much for sharing. :loveit:
Very good read, thanks for posting that, Michelle! I also wonder what makes the cockatoo white with the bright yellow or in Sassy's case, the salmon color? I have noticed that healthier birds do have brighter colors.
